We never should have become a Super Power. It is bad for us. It is bad for the world.

You are wrong.

Even with all our mistakes and miscalculations, there has never been a national entity that has wielded so much power so benevolently as America has done.

I promise you, this century's Chinese hegemony will not be nearly so pleasant. :(

Oh my God. You actually believe this don't you?

For 10 points...

Please compare and contrast the actions of the Soviet Union with the actions of the United States in Europe in the decades after WWII.

Mate I will go one better. Get a globe. Spin it 20 times and close your eyes and stab your finger out randomly and see if the country you land on has felt the impact of US infractions be they economic, social or in armed incursion. This is not even saying that it is a good or bad thing. It is life and reality. Under any superpower of similar global importnace the result would be the same or worse but lets not downplay it for what it is.

OK am I on 20 points or what?

Want to go double or nothing? :p

All good mate

Hey, I never claimed America/American influence wasn't obnoxiously ubiquitous... it is.

But the fact remains, if we were the complete bastards many Europeans characterize us as, they certainly wouldn't be bad mouthing us on OUR interwebs...

And make no mistake, if we were complete bastards the interwebs, and everything else, would be ours.

I think that there is more benefit in having the ability to have the internet technology spread globally and hording it would ultimately be cutting off the nose in spite the face. Having said that again to be fair, I think any country with the amount of power and influence that US has would not be much better in any aspect of their dealings with other countries.

I've been living in this country all my life and I only left once to visit Canada, (which really didn't feel much different)

pros:
Driving on the highways with the cool breeze in your face.
The Beaches
The Bars
Comic Book Stores
Hockey Games
News stations like NPR who always tell people the truth
Reese Witherspoon and other people who give more money to help society than I will be able to. (seriously, g'bless em)

cons:
Disgusting imbalance of wealth
Corrupt politicians
Expensive Defense department that still can't find a 7 ft Arab after nine years
Pat Robertson, Rush Limbaugh
Idolization of macho stupidity
Did I mention the corrupt politicians?
Celebrities mattering more in the news than economic crisis.
Those stupid kids who smoke hookah under their ugly posters.

The animals in the flag resemble closely to that of ancient Celtic art.

America: welcome to the land of contradictions!

I'm American, by birth & by choice. I have traveled abroad when I was younger, & would do so now if I had the money. I am annoyed by the stupid stuff that seems to be tearing this nation apart. It seems as though politicians are all about lining their own pockets, & pushing their own agendas. People who are corrupt rule the show, while the working class gets squeezed out a little more everyday. Gone are the days when politicians cared about this country, & wanting what's best for it. Maybe the name should be changed to the "Cash Cow" nation.

Failing at geography
Being more xenophobic than much of the rest of the world
Being an idiot
ignorance
easy to manipulate
greed
apathy for what's going on outside the US
Failing at geography

(This applies to about 60 to 70% of Americans)
