That actually happened and I do admit I laughed when I read it.

They join a forum using a username of a character and pretending to be that character.

They hijack threads.

When they make up an obviously stupid name, and then make nothing but offensive spam threads.
On one Transformers forum, there was a hit-and-run troll who joined with the name 'Jewbaggins.' He put spam in every subforum, it took a few days for the mods to remove it.

When they only join just to say 'Star Wars is gay.'
