I can see this thread going on and on and on for fifty pages. The undead page.

No!

But I am aware that outside of a fairly narrow range of 'pop' topics or themes, most WP threads are born dead

Blindspot149, you sir, have a valid point in that there are many threads that don't last that long duration wise.
I try to stick with the threads that tend to not just be active but, rather have some sort of connection to myself as a person not just from a hobby or interest perspective..

My 'Taleb and the Easterbrook affair' is a wonderful example of a poll/thread that is unlikely to receive much meaningful response.

I hate to admit this but I am pretty sure that I have a talent in killing threads too. I am also very good at killing blogs too. My blog was so boring that only one person consistently left me a comment this year and she probably did it because I was her latest stray!

Nah... I am not so worried about thread killing. I am, however, worried that my words are wrong. I fail to hit the submit button more than I would like to admit because when I re-read what I type I cannot stand my words. They are just not right.

Now with that, perhaps I will kill this thread?

Not a chance! That honour, by rights, belongs to me.

I've killed a few threads. I don't know how or why it happens. No thread lives forever, except maybe those "last person to post" etc. kinds, which presumably survive as long as the site does.

I take a risk when I post. Threads have died. But that's not my problem; indeed, in this kill-or-be-killed world, those threads should have protected themselves.

I'm more worried about saying something stupid or not understanding something in the thread than I am of killing the thread itself. Although, killing a thread is kind of a weird feeling. I've done it quite a few times on here so far.

I see that my Taleb thread is now in free fall! It should be dead and buried by sun down today, being the weekend.

It's nice having a place to comment on it without simultaneously 'bumping' it

It's a lot harder to kill a thread by posting, than it is to kill a thread by -not- posting.
