Which Bishop are you talking about B1 as in Julia or B2 (Bronwyn )

Which Banana is scarier I wonder I'd say B2 ( by a whisker) so scary in fact if B2 had a love child with John Howard it would be drum rolls :

should I tell you or could you imagine who it would be .

PETER COSTELLO WROTE

r costello is the most impressive politician in my mind.
he was the best treasurer that australia ever had i believe.

he was seen to be extremely arrogant by the population, and they disliked him very much. he used to slouch and smirk in smugness during question time because he was very relaxed about the fact the he was amassing a major surplus for the country. he seemed to have an almost midas touch, and when the australian people voted his government out with contempt, we had a surplus that the current government used up rapidly.

we stayed out of recession because the current government had a sizable inheritance that they raided, and moreover, they plunged us into extreme debt by borrowing after the surplus ran out.
the current government is borrowing $100,000,000 per day to keep us afloat, and they smile and expect credit for the money sloshing around in our economy.

i find it hard to believe that the australian people vote based upon their impressions of the "likeability" rather than the crude ability of the candidates they favor.

rudd got in because people liked his appearance in comparison to howards appearance.

costello was consigned to the back bench by his unpopularity in the australian psyche even though he pulled us out of a $96 billion "black hole" left by the previous government, and he turned it into a $22 billion surplus. he just looked like a smug "dickhead" to the average joe, so they voted the government out because of that and the shape of the eyebrows of the prime minister.

they voted in a sycophantic rubber duck (rudd) who was preened and personable because they liked him, and there has been a litany of fiscal disasters due to the present governments gormless inefficiency ( the same side of government that gave us a $96 billion deficit when they lost last time that costello fixed)..

people are stupid and they go with the most attractive personality and presentation rather than stick with tried and proven talent.

Interesting you could easily replace "Costello" for Keating.

1 Deficit well have you forgotten the (deceptive) "black hole " left by the treasurer HoWARd and his merry men (at least Labour are honest with their deficits)

2. "Greatest treasure" well that's in "you mind" Keating won the coveted award as in "worlds greatest" (Euromoney)

3. Disliked ? nobody was more disliked than Keating not even Costello.

Though I do agree with you people are stupid, these days if you want to become an Aussie PM you must lower yourself to one or (preferably) more of the following :

1. Drink and pretend to enjoy mega swill as in beer (VB etc) not that I have the problem with beer :D as in REAL ales nothing is more pleasurable and more exciting than trying a Real beer it's the sort of thing you can intellectualise (I kid you not) reall beer is far more intellectual than wine again I kid you not (I 'm rambling time to stop. )

2. Must be a sport fan preferably of the brutish variety eg league.

3. Seen going to bakeries scoffing done dead animal wrapped in pastry (meat pie) looks in the direction of photopotuntisitic Jules.

4.Go on as many lame and mindless TV shows as possible eg " Hey hey it's Saturday" looks in the direction of Tony Abbot no wonder Kerry O'Brien was p%%ed off that Abbott couldn't make it to the 7.30 Report because of "prior commitments"

Keating would never lower himself like the current crop of pollies hence one of the reasons he was disliked , his minders repeatedly told him he needs to do the "meet and greet" why should he lower himself all I want from a treasurer to do is manage the economy to the best of his abilities .

PS It does surprise me some of the members here think Rudd is aspie yes his brother is autistic even so Rudd is to smooth and deceptive and he seems quite comfortable lowering himself. I don't think any aspie would have the shapultz to become Pm even so I would have thought Keating would come close, stony face, "unusual interests" often reclusive, his aversion to calling people by their 1 st name  who could for get "little desiccated coconut" jib.

i agree. i do actually admire keating more than costello but keating is further back in history so i did not mention him. he learned so rapidly that ist was astounding. i saw a "7:30 report" episode when he was newly appointed as treasurer and he admitted to knowing nothing about it and he was in a unit and he had hundreds of books piled in stacks on the floor and he had pairs of spectacles on top of many of them.

within 3 months he was confident and authoritative and had complete control, and he floated the dollar which was essential to prevent us from becoming (in his words) "a banana republic".

no i mentioned the $96 billion black hole left by hawke and keating. you have your facts wrong. howard and costello inherited the $96 billion black hole. costello had 12 budgets and 10 of them were in surplus and he eradicated the $96 billion black hole.

you seem to be drunk and it was only 3:31pm on a thursday when you wrote your post.
can i please correct your sentence?

aussiebloke wrote:

yes he did. i think costello was not as colorful or as bright as keating, but he nevertheless outperformed keating in the money making stakes.
admittedly, costello also had a more advantageous economic climate to work within.

aussiebloke wrote:

true. the fact that keating was more disliked than costello does not obviate the fact that costello was also disliked.
keating was disliked because he seemed to be an arrogant snob and out of touch with "struggle street" because of his armani suits and his penchant for fine wines and antiques. but keating grew up in bankstown which is a working class suburb. he was a succesful person who rose from an environment of mediocrity, and those who could not rise from mediocrity resented him.

show me where anyone said that. i do not think any one in their right mind would suspect him of having AS.

and i am not peter costello.

question time used to be so funny to watch. keating and costello were very entertaining.
now it is so boring and rigidly squeezed into the guidelines of unspontaneous recital of scripts by puppets with no personality or verve.
here is a classic costello

here is keating to costello, but costello's reply is not shown in this clip.

B 9 WROTE

+ 1

That's so aspie he was gracious to have admitted he knew nothing ! yet read read read and probably became even more knowledgeable than the so called "experts" I wish people would stop putting so much faith in the "smartest guys in the room", meh it's not all bad it allows aspie Buffet and his ilk to pick up the pieces and make a handsome profit.

Regards to the deficit I wasn't mistaken I was talking about the "unexpected" black hole left by Fraser/Howard (3.3% of GDP) higher than any time under the Keating /Hawke government (peak of 2.7%) Not that it matters at these low levels, one economist remarked recently (for get which one) people need to end the budget deficit fetishism mentality I think he may be right.

PS I'll track down the member that claimed Rudd may be aspie very :o coming from a female aussie aspie.

My family is mostly really for the Labour Party, but I am trying to take a more neutral look. Though I do know that Liberal got all that surplus a few years ago, I also know that they sold off a lot of government assets, from land to things like Telstra and the Australian post, even the area where I live used to be mostly government owned has become largely private. And I also remember that the Howard government also promised not to introduce GST, but of course ended up introducing it, so I don't quite trust them at keeping promises.

Abbott promises that he will pay off the government debt quickly, cut taxes, several other expensive promises and not utelising the mineing boom, to me that just does not sound right, I know that the large debt is bad, but I also think that is probably needed to make sure the economy did not seize up dureing the crises which is simple economics. Another thing that peevs me off is that the Liberals are promising a large increase to supporting schools, but actually is more for Private schools which actually get more government funding already then public schools.

Oh I also hear a lot of talk that Gillard backstabbed Rudd, to me that just sounds a bit wrong, to me it just looks like after everything that happened Rudd was just under too much scrutiny, so the party thought it would look better with a change in leadership, I don't really think Gillard had beenb conspireing to take down Rudd.

Just can't wait 'til it's over so we don't have to look at political posters every where we go and listen to political crap every time we switch on the radio or TV. One more week!

yes

Bradleigh, you have made some very exceptional points, Kudos to you!

However, for my part, there is nothing more important than empowering Australians
to achieve scientific and environmental goals !

To me, all the concern and concentration over asylum seekers and reducing debt is just a distraction from what's important.
I will vote for the party that spends my taxes on infrastructure, education and basic scientific research.

My reasoning being:
If there's an economic collapse, I'd rather have a bridge built, a school educating
and a University developing minds,
than a depressed economy that didn't owe any debts but had a 50% unemployment rate and no hope for the future for school leavers.

Unfortunately, there isn't any party that promises that.
So, I have made up my mind, I am going to vote for the Greens.
Purely for the fact that they are the only party that concerns itself with morality above all other issues.

Aussiebloke wote:

2. Must be a sport fan preferably of the brutish variety eg league.

3. Seen going to bakeries scoffing done dead animal wrapped in pastry (meat pie) looks in the direction of photopotuntisitic Jules.

Their was some vintage footage of Keating on "Squabbling heads" (Talking Heads) and Ray asks him that question do you no who's the top 5 teams are on the AFL tables Keating looked bemused "NO" I don't understand these" journalists" asking questions to something we all ready know the answer to . Ray looks over to Hawke and says but of cause you'll know and yes he did. I'm surprised Keating didn't tear Ray apart like he did to Richard Carlton and his ilk (when ever they ask a lame or provocative question that is) those interviews are still fresh in my mind as if it where yesterday) I guess their fair game when a supposedly serious Abc journalist sells their soul to the devil for an extra :? 50 -10K a year . Such fair game ( Beaconsfield Richard Carlton 2006) the journalistic gods of good taste saw another tediously scripted interview with a monetary and up bring view those gods said "enough is enough"

Another incident involving Jules though too be fair to her it was a "journalist" who raised the matter "should sauce come free with the pie" I don't particularly find this amusing nor interesting, I'd much rather here Keating ramble on about the "J Curve" he was right all along :P if only he could have served out an extra term or 2 he could're owned the recovery in the minds of "struggle street" ( I assume B9 when you say "struggle street" you mean "Howard battlers") their a whiny and ignorant lot aren't they I'd hate to have to be a politician and have to indulge in their bleatings, those who are in real struggle through little or no fault of their own I'd happily indulge :) In my mind it's really hard to sympathize with people who think they can own the McMansion, Olympic size swimming pool and the Range Rover all on a lower middle income wage. :o

Congrats on the Greens winning their 1 st (ever) lower house seat (House of reps) they aslo hold the balance in the senate :)

Though I'm sure in the minds of a certain demographic that's Armageddon (I think it's true you don't have to be stupid to be a conservative though their sure are a lot of stupid conservatives) May be the not so stupid conservatives are aspie or borderline so.

Despite the stereotype I'm sure some in that demographic have travelled have they ever asked themselves why the great cities of Europe are so great could it be in part thanks to been governed or co governed by the greens eg think of the open spaces, greenery, world class ( by a considerable margin) public transport .

Take Lausanne as an example one of the worlds greatest cities though it's neighbor Geneva may dispute this it's often on the top of the heap as far as "most livable cities " go , it has a tiny population yet has a metro system it has the "worlds smallest city :with a metro system" status All thanks to being governed (2001 onwards) by the Greens I'm bemused when world class like Sydney with a population 20 X greater than Lausaane and a higher population density (metro inner city area) still does not have one !

It's on the table though and off and on and off . and on I suspect if it's "on" again as in on " approved" and "on" with the construction, construction workers will run into some rocks or pipes and wouldn't know what to do than the project will be shelved, in it's place will be gleaming new toll road . I guess that's the Lib Lab way I suppose. Only a Greens or it's equivalent government would deliver in this regard. If we must "waste" money stimulating the economy why not "waste"it on a world class public transport projects , a gift that keeps on giving. :)

My local member Rob Oakshott is one of those independants that the coalition and labor are playing tug of war over :P

He's a good bloke though.
