Oh Dear  My sister gave me a copy of "Evidence that demands a verdict". It did not convince me so far.

Theology has to be one of the most immensly boring human pursuits in the entire history of mankind.

Really? The textual transmission stuff really did give me pause for thought. Though I should add that it didn't convince me that the Bible was true either, just that it was very well preserved tradition.

I like reading about famous past people's ideas of God/spirituality, but that fundamentalist crap arguing over the tiny details of how the english language should describe god and his trinity is pointless to me. If there was a god human language would be too limited anyway so why argue about descriptions like that. very boring,

Completely agree with you. God is far bigger than us teeny wees, so we're always going to get it wrong. That's why there are so many religions and denominations in the world. And that's why, if there's a loving God (which obviously I believe there is) He'd throw His hands up in the air and say, "Oh, I need to go introduce myself to these silly little children... maybe then they'll understand Who I am." Because we'll never get to Him by ourselves.

Hey, I just realised, I'm in danger of trolling a thread about trolling, by trolling about religion, which isn't what the original trolling thread was about. (Couldn't fit quite enough trolls in the sentence, but it's still amusing to my little mind.)

heh... I think theology can provide insight into the human psyche and the herd mentality.

I've always had the impression its a niche anorak train spotter arena of academia. Reading a book once that was making the case that Jews were not eligable for heaven by a theologian trying to softly softly say anti-semetism was ok in academia speak was not the peak of thrilling reading. However the Closing of the western mind which was not theological but historical was more interesting in its analysis of middle ages cultures as orthodox and catholic christianity established their dominance over europe in a post roman empire world.

I've never been a troll. I'm much too kind to do that. Trolling is to hurt people.

Eh... picking apart the mind of someone like that is entertaining, though.

I've always been fascinated by religions, it's affect on people/culture, and how it comes about and why.

The topic is so wide, it's hard to get bored.

On this one forum I was a member of during my early teens, I had some trollish tendencies. I didn't mean to actually troll the site, I was just really annoying and obnoxious at times. Now that I look back on it, I'm sort of embarrassed for the way I behaved on that website.

I don't have the time/don't get any pleasure from it. I do like making unhelpful jokes though.

I do the same but I also look for excuses to post irrelevant music vids, ask stupid questions & to quote TV eps & also to talk about something I'm probably the only one who cares about. I don't think I'm a toll thou cuz I think it's comic relief & my intent is NOT to annoy people or cause problems/disputes between members or anything. There is some useful info in it to sometimes

It's just an extension of human beings perception of the world around them. Morals and ethics are more fundamental and important to how we function and behave. Of which, despite its claim to the contrary, religion has no authority on what so ever. It is just a shallow context in which to convince the believer of their would be superiority over others through being one of the chosen to know the real deal about whats going on.
