Here's one end of my mess hole. Rare sighting of floor there... this is the tidiest this room has been in for several years.
Cornflake mentioned that the rest of his house is messy, I'm the opposite, I try very hard to keep the rest of the house in order, and my room is just a tipping ground.

Well, I'd feel right at home!
In fact that looks very much like the other side of my thinking pit - the view I haven't shown.
It looks like you're operating on the same principle as me: "it's horizontal, therefore it must be a shelf". It's amazing how much shelf space can be discovered once this simple fact is realized.

Excellent - although I should maybe point out that the surface doesn't necessarily need to be flat: it's just a question of developing sufficiently advanced stacking skills to discover even more shelving!
