Or a Savannah? (very exotic) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savannah_cat

Both very expensive. What are my chances of getting a healthy Mau without breaking the bank?

remember to check your local adoption agencies; maybe there is one there. OR try out craigslist.

A moggie will love you just as much as a vastly expensive pure bred cat, so unless you are into racial purity I suggest adopting a kitten from your nearest animal shelter.

Animal shelters are wonderful. And also, do you have your heart set on getting a kitten? While they're certainly cute and I love them all to death, my recommendation is that you consider adopting an adult cat. Not only are you helping an animal that otherwise might not have a future (all of the kittens will find homes without trouble, but adults tend to be abandoned forever), but there's a direct benefit for you as well. With kittens, you can't predict what they'll be like as they get older. With adult cats, their personality is already apparent and you know what you're getting into. I've adopted most of the cats I've had from animal shelters or found as strays. Only one of them we raised from birth (when one of our adults had kittens we kept one). It's true that you can affect their personalities if you care for them as kittens, but a large part of their personality is out of your control.

I really want a kitten because I can name it myself and it will grow up knowing me and hopefully become attached to me.

You can rename an adult cat, and I assure you that they can become just as attached to you as kittens - maybe even more so, since you've rescued them and they know it. But of course it's up to you. :)

Adopted cats are the most loyal cats. I've heard a lot of people saying that and I've experienced it myself. It's like they really know you helped them out so they give you all their love and become very attached. Best friends ever

My adopted adult cats were more loyal then the ones raised from kittenood. I've never managed to get a kitten to raised to have a good personality; it's too uncontrollable.

I like the bigger breeds like siberians and main coons. Get a male cuz they are more cuddly than females, make sure to nutier and cats get alot of diseases so vacines are important but expensive. Here in the US, it cost over 200 dollars per year, per cat to properly vacinate them.

Well, i prefer capuchin monkeys but if you like loyal cats, try a sacred-birmanian, mine was polite and clean as a cat and loyal and obedient like a dog. :D

Oh, just a little warning about fluffy cats. It takes a lot of time and dedication to take care of their fur because it gets matted very easily. Depending on a cat it may take everyday care so just consider if you could do that :)
