Just as a variation from spreading it on toast

I just remembered. Its Bovril you do this with, not marmite!

Do you get Bovril in canada? It kinda tastes better IMO

no it's a good idea (and 2 other members suggested it upthread). i found recipes for it, so it's not so weird as you think! we do use Bovril like that too.

I would recommend having a bucket nearby. That way when the overwhelmingly rancid disgusting flavor causes you to violently throw up everything you've eaten for a week, you'll be ready.

lol! and your location is.... ?

Vegas. There's a world market near my house where I can get all kinds of regional foods like marmite. While marmite isn't the worst food they have there,(that honor goes to gefilte fish) it's definitely not something I wish to try again.

I'm really tempted to nip to the Tesco on my street and pick up some Marmite and toast. It's been a while

I've got that south park song in my head with modified lyrics now

"Suck on my marmite salty balls"

I have some, and couldn't resist the urge of needing some buttered toast with Marmite after reading this thread.
Mmm, delicious.

I have marmite on toast with melted goats cheese... The goats cheese is optional and often frowned upon by most people with tastebuds, however I'm cows milk intolerant so it's the next best thing! I like it anyhow! (Or maybe the Marmite makes it taste better!)

I have also had Marmite on rice cakes. Frankly those rice cakes need some flavour on them so Marmite it is. I don't know about where you are but in UK we can also get Marmite coated cashew nuts. I have yet to try these though!

so, i tried marmite. it tastes good but also unusual to me. my daughter didn't mind it, but particularly if it was added to other things instead of being a flavour by itself. the first thing i noticed on opening the jar was that strong aroma. when i was spreading it i noticed the stickiness. i found it difficult to spread thinly on some toppings. toast with butter was definitely the easiest base to spread it on.

here were my results, roughly in the order of nommiest to barfiest:

Image
BEST. CASHEWS. EVER. i happen to love cashews, and the marmite was very, very good on them.

Image
this was seriously WIN. both my daughter and i said the marmite took the cheese toast to a whole new level.

Image
the whole wheat toast was good. we tried it plain and mixed with honey, and the honey tasted best (though it felt like a cop out).

the crisps/chips were AMAZING, though i spread the marmite on too thickly as it got caught in the ridges. i got this idea from the internet as someone suggested it as a homemade version of a commercial product.

Image
i don't think this was what Bucephalus had in mind, but i could NOT resist. the cornflakes were suprisingly good, though because they were so little it was hard to spread.

Image
the pumpernickel rye bread was great. the peanut butter-and-marmite sandwiches were not. really, really not.

the broth was too watery, but it still tasted okay. it wasa lot like beef broth (which is often made from similar vegetable products these days, interestingly)

Image
the Dutch crispbakes tasted like vomit. the bread was too mild and did not offset the saltiness of the marmite.

Image
the crackers were worse than the crispbakes. too salty on a too-thin base.

i did not have any rice cakes to try. anyway i detest rice cakes.

and finally, the table when everything was half-eaten, as evidence. in the end we did end up eating most of it, though a couple of things were hardly touched. a few things are missing from this picture as they were late additions.
