Fridericus Rex, unser König und Herr

1. Fridericus Rex, unser König und Herr,
Der rief seine Soldaten allesamt ins Gewehr;
|: Zweihundert Batallions und an die tausend Schwadronen,
Und jeder Grenadier kriegt sechzig Patronen.

2. "Ihr verfluchten Kerls," sprach Seine Majestät",
Dass ein jeder in der Bataille seinen Mann mir steht!
|: Sie gönnen mir nicht Schlesien und die Grafschaft Glatz
Und die hundert Millionen in meinem Schatz."

3. "Die Kais'rin hat sich mit den Franzosen alliiert
Und das römische Reich gegen mich revoltiert;
|: Die Russen seind gefallen in Preußen ein;

5. Nun adjö, Luise, wisch ab das Gesicht!
Eine jede Kugel, die trifft ja nicht!
|: Denn träf' jede Kugel apart ihren Mann,
Wo kriegten die Könige ihre Soldaten dann?

6. Die Musketenkugel macht ein kleines Loch;
Die Kanonenkugel macht ein viel größeres noch;
|: Die Kugeln sind alle von Eisen und Blei,
Und manche Kugel geht manchem vorbei.

7. Unsre Artillerie hat ein vortreffliches Kaliber,
Und von den Preußen geht keiner zum Feind nicht über;
|: Die Schweden, die haben verflucht schlechtes Geld;
Wer weiß, ob der Östreicher besseres hält.

8. Mit Pomade bezahlt den Franzosen ihr König;

I am also an admirer of Sweden's own Gustavus Adolphus, and I think Axel Oxenstierna is just about the best name ever.

No, but I can do a pretty good translation myself:

1. Fridericus Rex, our King and Master,
He called together all his soldiers in arms;
Two hundred battalions and to that thousand sqadrons
And every grenadier gets sixty cartridges.

2. "You damned men" spoke His Majesty,
"I expect every one of you to stand by me in the battle!
They won't let me have Silesia and the county of Glatz
And the hundred millions in treasure!"

3. "The Emperess has allied with the French
And revolted the Roman Empire against me;
The Russians have invaded Prussia;
Up, let's show that we're good children of this land!"

4. "My generals Schwerin and the field marshall von Keith
And the major general von Ziethen are always ready,
Damn, moors, thunder and the holy element,
Who doesn't know the Fritz and his soldiers yet!"

5. Good bye now, Luise, wipe your face,
You know every bullet doesn't hit!
Than if every bullet precisely hit her man,
Where did the kings find their soldiers than?

6. The musket ball makes a tiny hole;
The cannon ball makes a much larger though;
The bullets are all made of iron and lead
And many bullets just pass by many men.

7. Our artillery has an excellent caliber,
And no Prussian goes over to the enemy;
The Swedes have damned bad cash,
Who knows if the Austrians have any better?

8. With pomade the French are paid by their King;
We get paid every week in heller and pfennig,
Damn, moors, thunder and holy sacrament,
Who gets paid as quickly as the Prussian?

9. Fridericus, my King, you laureath,
Oh, if you just allowed plundering more often.
Fridericus Rex, my King and hero,
We'd haunt the Devil out of the world for you!

I like that poem. Do swedes sing that when they're blowing up security cameras?

I'm not surprised french soldiers are paid with porn. That may be why they haven't done any fighting since the invention of the camera.

The French have done plenty of fighting since the invention of the camera: World War I, World War II, Vietnam, Algeria. They just haven't been very good at it.

Carl and Gustav or Carl Gustav are very common names on Swedish kings. The king we have know is called Carl XVI Gustav. The mauser is probably named after him and made either in Husqvarna, Småland or Karlskoga, Värmland. 8)

As best I can figure, the armory was named after the town of Carl Gustav, which was named after King Charles X Gustav

The armory was around before the current king came to the throne.

There is no town called Carl Gustav but Karlskoga, named after Charles X Gustav. There are a few parishes named Carl Gustav but none of them have or have had an armory what I know of.

Charles X Gustav was the king who conquered my home province. Before that it belonged to Norway. It happened in 1658.
