I think that sounds like a terrific idea.

I feel the same way I do for fursuits here, it's creative, weird and a great form of human expression but it's not for me. I prefer making myself stand out by not poking holes in places where holes were not meant to be poked. Clothes, considering hair colour etc.

I love sticky out ears, when I was younger my ears seemed huge compared with the size of my head. they used to call me wingnut

...and good luck finding a surgeon who would perform such a thing....not to mention ten minutes into your future, when you decide you no longer want elf ears but oh dear, they are permanent! A very whimsical concept but really? No, no, no.

Actually most professionals will probably think a person with elf-ear cosmetic surgery is batshit crazy and consider them a liability to the company.

Which is very stupid - because untold millions of people have equally strange cosmetic surgeries all the time, implanting themselves with silicone, paralysing their faces, slicing off parts of the penis in childhood - without it being thought to make them a liability.

I don't think its stupid. Most of these other "enhancements" are not readily visible or are subtle additions to one's appearance. Nor are they "equally strange" with elf-ears... They are not a blatant cry of "HEY LOOK AT ME I AM SO SPECIAL". I don't much care for this attitude and it does not get one anywhere past the age of 17 anyway

The basic intention behind (almost) all cosmetic surgery is for it to be seen. Breast implants and botox certainly qualify and the pseudo-attractiveness they generate is highly prized by some areas of society, especially among more institutionally sexist employers. They aren't blatant cries of "hey look at me" - not granting your premise that someone getting elf ears would be saying that, they might just fancy them - because society already accepts those types of body modification, as it does for a number of other cosmetic surgical procedures (ear-rings, piercings, hair removal, say) and non-surgical appearance modifications (high heels, wigs, say) which have equally significant effects on appearance.

Well personally I think elf ears would be a perfect edition to the Wrong planet forum.

I would not do it, not even if I were paid. Regardless, I think you can do whatever you want with your body. It is not my problem and I think it is stupid for employers to consider it when hiring.

The only cosmetic surgery I am partial to is rhynoplasty, because I do not like my nose that much. Despite that, I would still not do it, because most nosejobs end up looking weird.

Well if it's OK for you to sort out your big nose, why's it not OK for someone to give themselves pointy ears? Don't be so elfist.

Big noses are common among dwarves. I am sure you are aware of the rivality we have with those stupid "Fair People". :x

Just a few thoughts:
Aspie life is hard - elf ears would make it harder - could you handle the comments?
Dating: ya some would date you, but that would be harder too. And consider whether
they would date you for you or the novelty.
Jobs: ya, you could get a job, but that would be harder too. And consider what kind
of job, probably blue collar. Nothing professional.
Age: What would they look like when you are 40 or 50...but then you could have
surgery to change them back. (I would not even get a tattoo where it would
sag or get wrinkled.)
Would people take you seriously?
Would you do this as an attention getting thing?

I own a small cafe and would probably not hire anyone with a surgical mutation.
In fact, when a customer comes in with the super big ear plugs (like 4" ones), vampire teeth, really slu*ty clothes, really bad tattoos, pajama bottoms, smelly, weird things they do to themselves, everyone goes to the kitchen to make fun of them and point them out to the staff.
May I say my staff is liberal as well. They all have tattoos and piercings. We never make fun of any disabled, transgendered, gay, or transvestites or people who are what they are.

Well personally I would welcome anyone in my cafe, especially those who wear really slu*ty clothes.

I think it's mega-hawt but unfortunately not plausible in this society. :(
