I was involved in a discussion after a post I made, and told a commenter I agree with her, even though what she said was not in complete agreement to my original post. To me it's common courtesy, to think about other people's feelings and thoughts if I raise an argument. She also didn't believe me I could have considered the point she made prior to writing my post, and that I can include more than one POV when I discuss something. I also used to use smilies until then, to show I'm making a light-hearted discussion, but I got told by posters that smilies are 'passive aggressive' - whatever that means, because it means nothing to me.
Does that ever sound familiar. The same kind if thing has happened to me many times. Seems like just because I'm willing to post my opinion about something, but also willing to admit it's just an opinion, taking other POV's into consideration, some users take that as either an unwillingness to stand up for my position (spinelessness), being argumentative, or worse, outright lying.
Worse yet are the situations in which, in the moment at least, I get a negative impression from someone else's post, express it, then clarify that I might have misunderstood them, that I don't feel they were being deliberately disruptive, and end up being called a liar. I don't understand people who can draw such firm conclusions about others from a momentary brief encounter online, knowing nothing more about me than what they've read in a few posts.
Makes no sense to me.
