Well, it looks like I may get to see an L.A. Kings game, now that the lockout is over.

Any serious advice about moving to L.A.? I know it will not be easy, but I am the kind of guy who sorta likes to throw caution to the wind. :D

I would have preferred to see them in the Fabulous Forum era, when they got Gretzky, not that I understand the nuances of the game beyond Get The Puck In The Net. I'm content enough to sit watching planes land at the In N Out next to the LAX runway.

Practical moving advice - if you hire a moving company or rent U-Haul, don't forget that the going rate to move out of California is up to 4 times as much. Use that to negotiate better rates.

Many areas like Silverlake/Los Feliz or the Westside have higher rents based on the reputation of the neighborhoods. On the other side of the LA River, Monterey Park is undergoing a gentrification phase with lots of Chinese immigrants setting roots, Alhambra is a good ethnic mix and has a lot of that Silverlake/Glendale/ Eagle Rock vibe.
The Valley is pretty diverse, but rather crowded in places and generally hot as you-know-where in the summer. I myself live near Anaheim in the OC and it takes me roughly 1.5 hours to reach DTLA on my mode of transport. Bus service/ Metro can take longer with all the layovers but the rail systems are fun and can get you most places. A lot of this you may already know if you've visited before

Westwood village is really expnesive and hard to find parking. Torrance is really suburban and has expensive stuff and cannot really keep trailers that well or large vehicles over 25 feet. Lot of houses and some malls. Also 405 freeway gets a ton of traffic and is really bad. Be warned of bad traffic GAs is also more expensive in California than some other places in the country but not compared to some places in the rest of the world.

One thing I do love about L.A. is In-N-Out Burger; whenever I go to the area, I try some. :D

I used to live in Hollywood. I stayed in a crack motel that was visited often by MS13, a notorious Mexican gang. I got to know a few of them, even helped them out, so it was nice having them look out for me instead of trying to busy me. I was there trying to break into the movie business as a screenwriter. Yeah, fat chance. I also lived in North Hollywood, hanged out in Pasadena and was homeless for a couple of months. I worked in Universal Studios Hollywood so that was an interesting experience. I can still smell the chlorine from all their giant pools now.

It will be very soon that I will book my trip to Los Angeles for Anime Expo, and I may do other things there soon, as well. If anyone on these forums is from the LA area, come say hi to me. :D

If you have a truck or a van by that time, I could use a lift. I'll probably be the dude pushing the broken down moped close to having a meltdown if I hadn't already by then. Anime confounds me but I can appreciate a good daikam  ura

Sadly, my L.A. trip didn't go as expected this year, but it's not a total loss: I got to take a tour of Dodger Stadium.

I will have a link to pics soon.
