Jimmy Saville is not a pedophile

I didn't want to believe the allegations at the beginning when they first came out. I, and a lot of people wrongly assumed that it might be people trying to claim some of his inheritence or something. The amount has quadrupled since then and I highly doubt that SO MANY women would be coming forward if they were lying. Okay there might be one or two attention seekers (they like things like this...) but I do believe most of them are genuine.

Unfortunately in 1970's Britain, laws on child protection were not as tight as they are now (and even now you get people slip through the net sometimes) and as Saville did a lot of charity work it is likely that people would have jumped to defend him had an allegation been made at the time. I have read similar stories (not about celebrities) where someone has told a parent that someone has been abusing them and they've been given a clip round the ear for dishonouring the person's name. I don't know what will be acheived by all these girls coming forward as they can't put a skeleton on trial, but at least it is opening people up to discussion about child abuse and therefore more stringent measures will be put in place in today's Britain.
