That part is left to interpretation. We can imagine both (or more) scenarios and see how each would be funny in its own way.

She assumes that the predator's brain is "inflexible" (as in, he can't help but be a predator), thus he would talk to her simply because she is charming, regardless of anything else (after all, NT-s assume I can't help being an aspie even when faced expulsion).

1. Her goal has nothing to do with catching them. Her goal is to bring them pleasure since she knows they are lonely and desperate. But then she is being used BY Chris Hansen, who wants to catch them. She "happens" to know they will be caught, BUT she finds it "less important" than the pleasure she will allow them to experience. Thus, she invites them into her house because she genuinely wants to make them feel better and she falsely believes that the few minute interaction with her would have much more meaning in their minds than the rest of their life (including jail and so forth).

2. In light of her false belief that interaction with her is more important than jail vs freedom, she is sure they will come to her house even if they know they will go to jail afterwards.

Granted sexual pervs are deviants, but most of them neurotypicals (because most people -perverted or not-are neurotypicals).

The attitude that NT-s have towards differences applies to ALL mental illnesses, not just Asperger. I mean if you look at how they treat schizophrenics, its even worse: at least aspies are not being forced to have shock therapy. So similarly, since NT decoy realizes paedophilia is a mental illness, she decides that paedophile can't help what they do, which is why she has nothing against them. But then she goes on and makes another false assertion: she believes that their mental illness makes their interaction with underage girl sooooo important that 5 minute of it is more important than jail time. That is why she invites them to her house "for their own good".

Most rapists are actually sociopaths(ASPD). They don't have conscience to speak of, so it would obviously make committing that type of crime much easier for them. Not sure if that's what you meant by "pervs" though.

It short for perverts.
Someone who wants to do children is usually thought of as a pervert. But the ones who act on the urge are actual rapists.

Okay lets say that sociopaths are seperate from both nts and aspies as yet another neurological type. Dont know if they are considered that or not by the scientific community-but lets go with that.

Its still not clear how this joke is a spoof of how neurotypicals deal with non neurotypicals.

Ok... she was recruited by Chris Hansen to catch bad guys.

First: why would her goal be different from the goals of chris hansen?

Second- are you saying that this girl is willing to be raped- just because she feels sorry for the rapist?

Or are you saying- that she thinks the just conversation is enough 'pleasure' for them. So conversation and company alone are enough to make her feel that she has 'helped them for there own good"?

And third -either way- platonic company-or actual sex- why would she give a crap about making a pervert and a stranger happy anyway?

1. Decoy assumes that predator can't help himself thus she is on his side. That is ultimately why she views her job as bringing him pleasure as opposed to getting him caught

2. Decoy assumes that due to predator's mental illness his need to interact with a minor, even for 5 minutes, is far more important than need to avoid jail. Thats why she invites him in despite being on his site (in fact she invites him in because she is on his side since she has mistaken ideas of what his needs are)

3. While decoy has nothing against the predator, she views some aspects of his life as "unimportant" (after all he won't have productive life regardless). Thus, she thinks the fact that he "happens" to go to jail is "not a big deal" which is why she invites him in "to bring him pleasure" while "overlooking" the whole jail part

4. Since decoy has mistaken assumption that predator's need to interact with a minor is so much stronger than desire to be free, she is sure that he will come to her regardless, even if he knows its a sting.

So what it portrays is that NT-s think that non-neurotypicals are "even more" disturbed than they actually are.

Uh I'm pretty sure the house where they had the sting-operation setup wasn't where the decoy girl actually lived. In other words it wasn't "her house".

I remember an episode where the guy kept asking for a piece of mail to prove she lived there, and she didn't have one then tried to talk around it.

Two possibilities:

a) She has a relative who is paedophile so she sees his struggles and she wants to help paedophiles. But she doesn't feel safe meeting them on her own, so she decides to be hired by Chris Hansen in order to help them out.

OR

b) She originally went there in order to catch bad guys. But then she happened to like the specific bad guy she happened to talk to. So she "would have" warned him not to come (while letting all the other guys come) if only she knew it was more important to him to be free. But then she had a mistaken idea that seeing her is more important for him than jailtime. So she let him go ahead and come, even though the reason she let him come (genuine concern for him) happened to be different than the reason she let all the other bad guys come.

Remember I was saying it is statutory rape not actual rape. In other words there is no indication that the guy would do anything without her consent. That plus she knows that there is Chris Hansen and the crew that would prevent anything from happening. She knows they wont have sex. But she believes that even the act of interaction with her is sooooo important for predator that it is all worth it, even without sex.

First of all he is not completely stranger. I mean sometimes they chat for days or weeks before they meet. I mean think of your regular dating site when you meet adults. By the time two adults meet they probably care about each other to some extend. Also she might feel bad about the fact that he can't help his perversion; she might view it as illness rather than choice, hence she might feel sympathetic. I don't have time to dig the specific links but here are few examples where they have shown concern

1. Remember the decoy Casey and the guy who wanted to go to the bathroom. She was later saying on TV how she let him go to the bathroom and how he became more relaxed. Her facial expression as she said it indicates that somehow she was glad he became more relaxed.

2. There was one scene with a really old guy where when decoy said "I will be right back" I could hear in her voice she felt like crying. So it seems like she felt bad for him.

3. There was one show in the beach where decoy was asking a guy what he wants. Now of course these questions is what they always ask. But that particular decoy, on the beach, was nodding her head like a psychiatrist, it seemed like she felt bad about his illness.

This is the first thing youve said in this long agonizing thread that actually makes any sense!

I think that we are finnaly gettting somewhere!

Lol!

Okay...so In YOUR mind you think that NEUROTYPICALS THINK that YOUR THINKING is SO inflexable that YOU (or any odd person) wont even momentarily modify your behavior for the sake of self preservation.

Jail isnt exactly death but it is a kind of psuedodeath- so it is a threat to self preservation.

You are convinced that most people think that you are so wierd that you dont even care about self preservation.

I think that is what this is all about.

Im a getting close?

Exactly! That is the point!

When I was nearly expelled I was telling professors I will change my behavior (work on topic I am not interested in) for the purpose of self preservation (staying in school). And most of them didn't believe that I could do that. They thought I am bent to do exactly what I am interested in, even if it means sacrificing self preservation.

I thought the person the guy was chatting with online was someone from Perverted Justice that was pretending to be the decoy. Seems like entrapment in a way actually.

I skimmed this long thing- but i think i have the ghist.

Ill admit that a decoy might bond with a caller and feel sorry for him- and maybe even become romantically attracted to him. And you're even making a case that sometimes something like that actually happen on this show.

So the caller might slyly warn the guy that shes a decoy. I get that that that could ( maybe even does) happen in these kinds of sting operations.

But the point of warning him is to get him to NOT to show up at the doorstep-its not to warm him- and then expect him to show up anyway.

( I know- you're gonna say "thats the point- shes dumb enuff to think he will show up anyway"- but thats not obvious enough to any reader to get that - if you're trying to tell a joke. And it just doesnt make any sense anyway.)

Your fictional girl would not want him to show up and get arrested if she succumbed to caring about him.

you're contradicting yourself.

What you said is a possibility, but that is not the scenario portrayed in a joke. According to the joke story she assumes they are both on the same page that meeting her is a lot more important than staying out of jail. Thus, she mentiones she is a decoy in much the same way as you would mention that there is a bird just flew by.

naturalplastic wrote:

But you see, she has a misconception that due to his illness his need to meet her is a lot more important than the need to stay out of jail. So, because of that misconception, she assumes that meeting her is what HE wants and what he would do even if all cards are layed on the table.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but it is also ridiculous when professors had SO MUCH concern for me that they wanted me to work on exact area of my interest and AT THE SAME TIME they had so little concern for me that they didn't mind me being expelled. The profs assumed my exact interests are more important for me than self preservation; similarly, the girl assumed that meeting her is more important than self preservation of the predator. Thus in both cases they thought they are doing a favor when they were in fact hurting the person they were supposedly doing a favor to.

WELL!

We got to the bottom of this dark pit!

Great!

So this joke really doesnt have a darn thing to do with pedophiles or chris hansen.

Its really about you presuading authority figures that you're worth investing faith in.

Well

You have to learn to - well- conceal your wierdness.

And to exploit your obsessions- kinda like dealing cards in poker.

And when you do speak about your passions to professors- you have to learn to do it in a way that it comes off as positive- as a passion -and not as wierd junvinile obsession.

Rein your ten minute speeches in- and taylor those speeches to the professors likely interests.

Learn to the play the game.

A young lady I used to know had a obsession with dogs- all things dog related. She finnally outgrew this behavior-but she would rattle on for minutes about her dog -and about dog breeds and dog care.

Now- if she were a graduate student in some kind of science- talking that way would just make her look juvinile to professors. But if instead of talking endlessly about her pet collie as such- she were to talk to her professors about how "researching collie DNA may yield clues into how neolithic man first domesticated wolves in Central Asia" - then that would make her look like a heavy wieght thinker to her professors-instead of a juvinile ret*d. Even though she be rattling on about virtually the same subject!

I know thats probably kinda clumsy example but maybe you can get what im saying.

Juvinile or not -- everyone has self preservation instinct. But profs assume that if I am juvinile I lack self preservation. Hence the joke about another example of "lacking self preservation" (namely, decoy's assumption that predator lacks one).

Also, if they perceive my 10 minute speach to be juvinile, they should be glad when I tell them how I am perfectly willing to work on something other than said juvinile topic (in order not to be expelled). But no, they keep insisting that I should find someone that accommodates the interests I described no matter how many times I say I don't care. This is logically parallel to decoy's desire to accommodate the perverted needs of predator.
