i remember in 1985, seeing my first amiga computer, and marveling that it had CD-quality sound and was able to display photographs. oh, the mouse was also new to me.

I remember those days too. When I was a child, the only way I heard music was on Sing-Along VHS tapes and the car radio when my family took me out to run errands with them. When I wanted the lyrics to a song, I would pop in the Sing-Along VHS tape and copy down the lyrics on a piece of construction paper with a marker, pausing and rewinding as needed. I finally got a CD player as a preteen, which I had until I was around 16.

i remember my first CD player, it was a sony discman i got after basic training in the army in 1984. everybody thought that was the coolest thing since sliced bread, i was playing the 1812 overture on it plugged into my new pioneer boombox that had cleverly designed speakers that put out real bass [at lower volumes] but when the cannon shots came i had to turn it way down.

being born in 1974 I was brought in to this world with pong(and computers that took up a gym) and at around 5-7 learned basic on a texas instraments computer, to........well you know.
but what I miss are people who consetered there actions, parents who didn't blame "the village" a decent wage, and, and this is a big one.....bands with insturaments, wow imagine that?

and real food, yes REAL.

i remember seeing my very first CD player [1982, 31 years ago!] at a long-defunct stereo place called "pacific stereo" [based out of SF] - it was the classic sony cdp-101, and it was the best-sounding thing i'd ever heard, i auditioned it via top-line infinity tower speakers, SAE parametric EQ [fun to play with], SAE pre-amps/amp- oh i wished at the time i could afford all that fine stuff! the first few CDs were the 1812 overture [lorin maazel's orchestra] and a michael jackson CD. also compared the sony with the very first magnavox CD player which actually sounded better to my ears than the sony, it was a bit deeper in the bass and the treble was a bit zingier. this was probably attributable to a <1db rise in the bottom 2 octaves and the top 2 octaves which was just enough to be discernable. the sony was a front-loader, the magnavox was a top-loader. they are both collector's items now.

I just pasted up grabing my dads old quadrophonic surround sound recever. he bought it when he started working for motarola(SP) when I was like 2?

ah yes, if it had SQ or matrix surround you could use it to decode the dolby stereo [pro logic surround] on many of your old videotapes or DVDs. i think surround is the way to go.

I remember when youngsters respected their elders instead of assaulting and robbing them.

i remember seeing my first video cassette recorder, at the uwajimayas store on king street in seattle, in 1974. it was a sony betamax. it recorded an hour of video on a videocassette. i remembered that the picture quality was surprisingly good but that the audio was a bit hissy. i wasn't able to get a VCR of my own until 1983. just thinking about all those programs i coulda recorded between 1974 and 1983 makes me feel like i missed something.

I remember getting my first Transister Radio, its probably still around somewhere.
I also remember my first Walkman it dosen't work anymore though.

it is sad that it is all too common for things of the day to have been made just rugged enough to where they'd last a few weeks or months after purchase, just beyond the warranty. otherwise people'd still be using the good old stuff and not so quick to get a new fangled thing.

Its also sad that nothing can be fixed anymore I had aRecord Player that couldn't be fixed luckily I was able to find a cd stereo system with a turntable its not great but its better than nothing.

i'm glad my turntable still turns table.

I remember when computers had black & green or black& white monitors.

i remember when puters were these big hulking mainframe thingies that filled up entire rooms and generated noise and heat.

NO. We has tough feet, and thought town people to be soft-footed. No-one ever had a problem.

When my brother cut himself above the eyebrow once, my grandmother put sugar on it, and he continued to play.

I'm not entirely sure whether I should laugh or cringe, but we all survived. Luck?
