I don't really get the appeal. Even if I had a high IQ (I don't really know my total score), most people there still probably wouldn't have a similar IQ profile to me. When I join groups I usually join them because I have a trait or activity I do that allows me to relate with other people, but I don't see how you can relate with other people just over a overall high IQ score. My friend got his IQ tested when he was assessed for ADHD and we related over the individual things that we had similar scores in, but not over the total score.

That's very true re relating over an overall high IQ score. It's why so many high IQ societies fail. As mentioned earlier numerous special interest groups have been set up to try and improve things.

An old but interesting article.

Neither am I. Usually I sit quietly in the fringes--sometimes I find an interesting conversation. And Mensans like to eat.

Nonetheless, I met my bride in Mensa. And made some friends who drove hundreds of miles (or hundreds of kilometers) to attend our wedding.

That is wonderful! <3 Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

I'm also frustrated by the society's view of intelligence. Maybe I'm alone in this, but one's ability to excel at standardized tests just doesn't feel like a qualifier to me. Some of the most brilliant people I know have failed standardized tests.

the brilliant people consistently think outside the box, they see a target nobody else can imagine. the rest are intelligent drones at best.

I have enough difficulty trying to live with the fact I'm useless at most things, and worthless. Yet some are more than willing to disparage something I'm not a major klutz at .

^^^roughly 2 millennia ago, Aristotle said much the same thing, “No great mind has ever existed without a touch of madness.”
