I'm me, you're you and it'll never be any different, so there's no point in wanting something that's unattainable. Whether their side is better or not....

(I'm never sharp.)

This is very true, but being someone else for a temporary period would be interesting and useful I suppose in terms of finding out how they work and understanding them better...but then, if you were them, would you even be aware enough of you being them to make any observations, lol. There is a conundrum.

I'm reposting my earlier post here, because I'm still confused by this and I'd really like some insights into this issue:

The idea of "being someone else" always confuses me, when it's brought up. Which exact aspects/parts of the other person would I be getting, and which of me would I lose? Just external things like appearance, name and living situation, or also mental traits? And what about memories? If I would completely become the other person (and, logically, the other person would completely become me, because we can't both be him/her), then nothing at all would change, and the question would be moot.

Can anybody shed some light on this?

I think the idea is that you would become the other person of your choosing completely in each and every aspect. As for switching bodies, I don't think the person who made this thread thought the idea out this far.

But that would make it a pointless exercise. If I wouldn't take anything with me in "becoming the other person" (and the same would go for the other person "becoming me"), there would be no change at all, neither in the perception of the other person and me, nor in reality.

Yes, agreed. I believe this is one of those idealistic exercises rather than a mental stimulation and learning experience. Perhaps if you're rattled enough with this concept than take a person here in which you figure would be interesting to see life in their shoes, give them some of your traits and take some of theirs?

Or maybe make a thread called "Trait trade" where you give the other person a few traits for the day? Of course this is all non literal, it wouldn't actually happen unless we made something that could trade characteristics of one person and give them to another. However, this likely wouldn't happen through the internet unless we found a way to transfer our thoughts and patterns through touch in which you may be able to apply it in the sense that someday they'll likely come up with a way to have monitors or devices that can transfer data including touch and simulation.

Energy, sound waves, ect. I can't properly explain it but I understand the possibilities of this.
