Open-mindedness is very often used by those who want you to let your brains fall off.

difficult question. it has vastly different meanings to me if i interpret "people" as "humankind", as "people around me", or as "someone i actually like"

if it's "humankind", past or present, then to me it's just something to be observed and studied. sometimes it's fascinating, but it's not something to be admired. if it's "people around me", then i admire them when they don't make me uncomfortable. it takes talent (and it's a talent that i try to develop myself). if it's "someone i actually like", then it's honesty. not unfiltered honesty (that's rarely a good thing), just regular honesty. it's really hard to consistently deliver honesty without being hostile, and admitting that you're wrong when you screw up is actually a major part of honesty. more than telling the truth, it's about acknowledging that truth is something under constant development

i do not admire anything, but people with conviction and initiative have qualities that i would like to also have.

Exactly.

- Open-mindedness and healthy curiosity instead of fear of the stranger and of the unknown
- Empathy, compassion and respect for everyone and all lifeforms
- Courage, willpower to fight their own inner demons, hatred and fears
- Anger (but no hatred, because there's a difference) towards injustice
- Loyalty (I especially admire couples who manage to stay together for their whole life in spite of difficulties)
- Honesty, should that be brutal bluntness if the purpose is good
- Passion

I like generosity, doesn't have to be material. I would love, more than anything, for someone to go out of their way for me. It would make me feel so special. I would marry someone who gave their all to me.

That, and open-mindedness, intellectual curiosity. When I say open-mindedness, I also mean someone who is able to take honesty, and be open to taking a look at themselves every now and then...a lot of people can give it but not take it. I can't always take honesty, there's tact involved of course...but I can take it more than a lot of people can, and I really don't understand it when some people say they like open-mindedness as a trait, when they don't appear to at all. Maybe because I'm used to insults etc. that I've built up more of a skin so I'm better able to look at myself? So my morals aren't necessarily the same as most peoples', and these so-called open-minded people think I must automatically be a bad person. Or these people claiming they like open-mindedness are just outright lying to themselves. Because they don't actually like hearing anything that could challenge them. Why admire open-mindedness in someone else when you're not even able to take on board the new ideas they present to you?!

Yes, this is something that pisses me off a bit. It's like the new "logical". THAT word got overused and now I believe the new term is open-mindedness.

Am I'm too presumptuous to think this was directed at me as I was the only person to mention 'open-mindedness' in this thread other than someone with 10 posts? Correct me if I'm wrong, please! If this is the case tho then speak to me directly please, not into the air because I would like to defend my character and define what I said in my terms and I'm sure somebody truly open-minded like you wouldn't mind this request right? I am pretty thick skinned too, my feelings get hurt more from people saying things behind my back. Maybe you're not speaking of me and I am mistaken and apologize but hopefully as open-minded person you might understand why I thought so considering my post was like 2 posts before.

When they keep their promises and value people over mere things.

What do I most admire? Honesty. Honesty is beautiful.
