earths crust (lithosphere)
volume = 5.054 x10^19 cubic metres

platimum
5 parts per billion

5/10^9*5.054 x10^19=2527x10^7 cubic metres

Granted but it continually crashes.

I wish everyone high-jacking this thread to discuss platinum or other off thread topics would use the Richard Benson thread instead.

2527x10^7 cubic metres is a lot more than a house.

Oh but it is not feasible to obtain these trace amounts, most of it comes from tin. I hear you saying

well lets see

earths crust (lithosphere)
volume = 5.054 x10^19 cubic metres

tin 2ppm
platinum in tin 0.5ppm

5.054 x10^19*2/10^6*0.5/10^6=50,540,000 cubic metres

Still a lot more than a house. :) Well if you can find a more accurate figure for obtainable tin I happy to recalculate.

Whiteskunk please come back your input is would be good.
