First thing that comes to mind when you think of Scandinavia

Norwegian forest cats look kind of like lynxes, but lynxes have short stubby tails and Norwegian forest cats have long, bushy tails. They're also kept as pets, which I wouldn't recommend doing with a lynx. It's possible they were once feral domestic cats that bred with lynxes or other wild cats at one time, and they evolved to live in the cold, mountainous environment by growing thick fur and becoming excellent climbers.

I'm really amazed at how well house cats adapt to different environments, they were apparently all at one time a desert animal in Africa, and now they can be found almost anywhere. Some animals aren't so lucky. I read that in British Columbia they once used camels to take people up the Rocky Mountains, since camels can travel long distances through deserts and don't need much water. But camels' legs and feet are built for walking across flat desert sand, not up rocky steep mountains. But I digress.

The first kid friendly thing that comes to mind is the colour yellow as in Sweden's flag. Then the next would be Danish pastries.

one of my fave jazz accordionists, Mat Mathews, was from Scandinavia.
