Do you like swimming in pools or on beaches more?

My parents now have a saline pool. About the only swimming I get to do now is in their pool in the summer, if I'm lucky. :( But I like that I have more privacy, there aren't any annoying little kids, and I can take my mermaid dolls or Finding Nemo characters in with me without feeling embarrassed. :)

Ever since my parents went to the beaches in the more tropical regions they haven't cared for going to the ones where we live anymore. I can understand that because the beaches down south look gorgeous and the water is a lot warmer.

I always wore eye goggles whenever I swam. so chlorine was not an issue with me. and newer pools are using UV sterilization in addition to High Efficiency Particulate Filtration so no more chlorine.

Beaches for me - public pools are filthy.

The water is lovely, warm, and clean in the Caribbean!

Even though I cannot swim and have aquaphobia to a degree, I do love being in water. But hmm.... pools or beaches... I guess I like being in the water at beaches or ponds, lakes etc. Anywhere where there are animals and vegetation present in the water. Nothing is more fun than having fish nip at your feet when you're in the water~

Although, I never did experience having a leech on me, I was always curious of how it would be to have one on me. Back when I slept out in the woods years ago when I went to camp in the summer, me and some people had gone on a hike. We crossed some water, there were some cute snakes (no not eels) swimming across the surface, some gerridae (water striders) and so on but further down, some guys ended up getting leeches on them. They ended up taking them off but we had to go back till it got too late. That trip was probably one of the most enjoyable I had in my life. But my god where there hundreds of crickets and grasshoppers at our site! I tried to catch them c:

Actually, yeah... ew... humans... cross beaches off my list.

As of this writing, it's off-season for swimming here in the Northern Hemisphere. Any WP members from the Southern-Hemisphere e.g., Australia?

On the original question, swimming-pools are the preferred places to cool-off esp. in the hot-summers in inland Suburban Southern California. Anybody make whirlpools in those backyard Doughboy pools?

On those few trips to the beach, I ran in and out of the ocean for a few minutes at a time. I rarely ventured into ocean water more than a foot and a half in depth. The Pacific Ocean in CA felt too cold to swim in for long periods; as well as concerns for sometimes unpredictable tidal conditions.

Swimming pools didn't feel as cold as the ocean; yet after a few minutes of acclimating to a cold swimming pool in a sometimes 100 degree plus suburb, it didn't take too long to well...dive in!

I miss living in places where it actually is warm enough in the water to swim!! The pool is alright, but sometimes it can get way too crowded. I'm also doing triathlon training, so good thing the swimming part is usually done in a wetsuit, that works much better with cold water. I've never had much of a tolerance for it.

My pool experiences were with:

* Well maintained (clean) backyard pools (including our own).

* Well maintained (relatively clean) pools with limited public entry. These were pools used to teach scheduled-only swim- classes, and recreational swimming - many kids in these programs were special-needs kids; and some (like myself) were on the Autism Spectrum.

Pools. The bottom is firm, not slimey or mucky. The water is clear so you can see what’s around you. In murky lakes or rivers things can bump into you. I know it’s probably fish, but .....
