WP is just one of a few forums I cut my teeth on. I guess what I've learned is that people are all the same. NT, AS, young, old etc. Everyone is governed by human nature. The differences in people are superficial.

I became cynical long before I was diagnosed! (...and pedantic too! )

I should have wrote “In general being undiagnosed well into adulthood leads to being overly cynical” or “In general those who do not get diagnosed well into adulthood are overly cynical”

That a lot of things I do or think are things other people do, too. I can relate to a lot of people here when I read posts. :)

Another thing it has taught me is that it's okay to be different. I knew that, but wasn't sure if I should believe it or not until now.

People who are cynical like...myself...have little hope or faith in the human race. Seeing as how human beings usually act these days, I think being cynical is justified. :P

I have learned that a great number of aspies seem to wrongly believe that just "being there" is all that it should take to attract a boyfriend or girlfriend. It's as if they believe that being an intrinsically interesting person is too much trouble, and that things like good health, good grooming, good hygiene, a good sense of fashion, and steady employment are completely un-necessary.

A lot of people have had experiences similar to my own in terms of doing "dumb stuff," and feeling as though they are way behind in life experience. I am much more fortunate than a lot of people here. I don't have serious physical or medical problems and am not nearly as isolated as others (certainly not as isolated as I was years ago.)

A lot of people here like cats and other animals, a very common interest here.

I have learned that, for many, the fear of rejection outweighs their attraction toward someone so much that they will often wait too long to express their feelings, and see the object of their attraction getting into a relationship with someone else.

A person's measure of themselves is the single most common factor in determining their success -- if they believe they will fail, then they will often be right.

I learned about sock puppets here. Undoubtedly, I had most likely encountered sock puppets before on other fora, but wrongplanet is where I learned about them.

Also, to stay out of PPR & L&D, for various sundry & obvious reasons.

I've learned from WP that comparing myself to others robs me of the joy of just being myself.

I've learned from WP that other people are not the cause of all of my problems.

I've learned from WP that I am stronger and smarter than my detractors think I am.

I've learned from WP that whatever passes for "common sense" is neither all that common, nor all that sensible.

I've learned from WP that most people will never understand what I have been through, including most of those who are going through it themselves right now.

I've learned from WP that it's never too late for dreams to come true.

I've learned from WP that there is no shortage of stupid questions.

That I don't use Smileys correctly OR some people on the spectrum misconstrue them.

New arrivals mostly appear to ignore the first rule which is to read the rules before starting to post on forums here.
