i guess it is the differing terminology for similar things, the semi-detached are called duplexes here. the terraces are called row houses here. [because they are in a row]. caravans are called vacation trailers here. and statics are our mobile homes or "tin cans." only the newer ones emulate stick built and have a wood-look exterior perhaps with some vinyl siding, but a metal frame.

I live in a 3 bedroom home with 2 bathrooms, 1 bonus room, living and dining room and kitchen with attached garage and a cottage that used to be a garage. We also have two attics and one above the cottage space. We also have another cottage being built my parents call the greenhouse. And one garden shed.

^^We use the term prefab when it's non residential. Some of my classrooms at school were in blocks of prefabs. They are used most here as temporary building that often stay used for decades.

Whoah, most people live in such big places! And here I thought most in WP were poor... or maybe housing is just much much cheaper elsewhere?

I live in a decent size rented studio... or well, decent size for a studio; there are studios that are 2/3 of the size of mine and some even half the size of mine! 8O I can handle this since I live alone, but I could really use more storage space... and a separate bedroom would be nice too... right now I'm saving for my own... apartment? Condo? A place in a building with lots of other people living in it too anyway. Once I can buy one, I definitely won't be getting a studio but a one bedroom place, two bedrooms if I manage to find a good deal. This'll still take at least a few years though.

What about bungalows? I think I've seen houses that are one story in American telly programs but I don't think I've ever heard the word bungalow. It's such an English word.

^Writing that made me think it was prob Indian so I looked it up.

Quote:
bungalow. 1670s, from Gujarati bangalo, from Hindi bangla "low, thatched house," literally "Bengalese," used elliptically for "house in the Bengal style" (see Bengal).

makes sense.

I live in a small house, 650 sq ft. Surrounded by woods and swamp. There is a small pond right outside the front door. It is heaven for me.

I do like the sound of MG's place and Sandpiper's place. I am more of a freshwater person, but can feel the allure of the sea.

The house. In the distance at the bottom of the sky is the sea. It is not easy to make out in the photo. The top of the stick type of tree in the distance is the line where the sky meets the sea.

Where can I find this measurement for my house? It's not on my deed or my home insurance.

If your house is square or rectangle, just measure length, measure width. Length x width = square feet.

Thanks, blazingstar. I know that ... I'm just too lazy to measure. I assumed it would be written somewhere? It's not on my tax papers, deed, or insurance. Even when I go to real estate listings for my area it only tells people's property size.

:(

I can often it out by looking up an address on Google.com. Realtors will list that information to help buyers compare homes in a given area.
