I noticed some people wanted to crash on the floor, some want a cheap place to live. How long could that be sustained? I mean, people would want their own space over the years, and as young as you may be now, sooner or later you might want a family (it COULD happen!) or even get old and creaky and need something more substantial than a few feet of flooring.

Well, I have slept on my few feet of flooring in my day, and was grateful I had it. In the middle ages, women gathered in secular communities ( as opposed to religious communities (nuns) called Begins. They did arts and crafts to support themselves, gardens, etc. I have lived in farming communes and spiritual communes and hippie communes more often than by myself, so I have few illusions about how they get run and how they last.

Sinsboldly, can I add you to the list? Anyway, I want to give each person enough flooring to be able to lie down and maneuvre with wheelchairs, walkers, etc. We won't get it done if we don't make it as cheap as possible for the time being! As for crashing on the floor, I mean, it only helps, it can't hurt, to let people like us crash in your house if they have no place to go. Why don't we make all our houses, apartments, rented rooms, whatever official Aspie safehouses? How can we identify these to each other? Also, yachts, boats, cars, whatever anyone has. These will be both safehouses and transportation between safehouses. :) And of course, our headquarters will be wherever we plan to settle-- Australia, Bulgaria, Belize, wherever.

you have to BE hippies to HAVE a hippie commune, username88. Are you a hippie? Are these other people hippies?

If you wanted to live in a convent or a monastery, you would have to be religious, right?

People who want families can either move out or raise their Aspie family in Aspieland. :)

My spirit is willing, but my knees are arthritic, dear ones. . .I am suffering the slings and arrows of old age and not really interested in sleeping on the floor. May I suggest I start my own annex where the Dino-Aspies may lounge in relative comfort befitting their years?

No Im not a hippie but Ive been with them before and they are great people.. But thats just because theyre high all the time and they dont usually notice how different you are so they only make good judgements about you :P
Right now I think we should do some actual serious planning though, and get those questions answered that were posted before. Is there anyone here whos up to it? Cause I wouldnt exactly be the best candidate for it unfortunately.

Sinsboldly, of course! :) Now can I add your name? Whatever, I'll do it anyway. :P

Username88, this IS serious planning. We have "what" and "why" figured out, and "who" we're starting to figure out. Now we just have to figure out where, when and how.

So for "where", so far, we have Australia, Belize and Bulgaria as ideas.

Australia because of:

1. pigs to hunt
2. lax government
3. expansive unoccupied land

CONS: they're strict about people seeking asylum

Bulgaria because:

1. it's cheap
2. you don't need to learn the language

Belize because:

1. it's allowed
2. it's isolated and beautiful

EDIT: The signup sheet, up to date:

2. Tim_Tex
3. username88
4. 2ukenkerl

I'm afraid this is a notion I introduced to Ana. It is unclear how the commune will actually work, but back when the notion of Austrailia was being tossed around, I mentioned the notion of "feral pig hunting" as a potential source of food (presumalbly along with farming, fishing, and raising livestock, and bartering with nearby communities with naturally produced goods; such would require a rather wide synthsis of skills (weaving, sewing, leather-working, etc.) but is not entirely unrealistic.) This is a very primitivist and self-reliant view of the commune, not easy, not for the feint of heart; I'm, uh, not actually sure how you guys are actually planning on implementing this; I was just tossing notions around.

I've considered taking a trip to Austrialia to hunt boar [feral pigs], with a spear, independently of this thead; it is a rather dangerous activity, not for the light-hearted; in fact, I would need to train for a while before attempting such an endeavor. It's not a joke; but it is good for the environment.

[Sorry Miss Ana; I cannot commit to this right now, as tempting a notion as it sounds; as I mentioned I need to work to provide special therapies for my son; but I wish you all well, and will continue to watch the developments here with interest.]

Good fortune,

- Icarus the Predator

uh. . .pig hunting? I went pig hunting in the mountains of Kauai. Even when you trudged hot and dusty up the hills and found the buggers, you then had to bring them down with shotguns and rifles that stink and the blast is forced right up against your ear! Then roping their hind legs and hoisting them hand over hand to hang from a tree while you hack through the tough skin and slit the belly to sternum to gut the hot bloody entrails.. and god help you if you pierce the intestines or gall bladder if you do! Digging holes to bury the innards, or even worse, needing to clean the innards because it is food... Then the task of hacking the butchering hatchets and knives. . .

and then packing that hot bleeding meat back down the mountain with the flies and mosquitoes. .

have you any idea what this is like?

I mean, food banks and spare changing on street corners is hard enough.

Found our home we now need $35,000,000 or we could settle for a smaller island.

I do, in fact, know what it is like. [Not specifically hunting with a spear, but dealing with large game in general, yes.] As I mentioned, "not easy, not for the feint of heart." But perhaps your elaboration on my simply worded description of things will be useful for those who do not know any better. "Not easy, not for the feint of heart."

Life feeds on life. It is a "yucky" process, abstracted from most these days by slaughterhouses and grocery stores. But it is the order of things.

Good fortune,

TheMachine1, that's FANTASTIC! :D Does that mean you're in? I think we should settle for Jemzie's Island right now; we can build highrise buildings on it. I have a design where you can keep adding floors; it's very simple.

Now who doesn't mind not having electricity? Running water is probably a necessity... more important than electricity. We can use candles, satellite internet (we could set up one of those satellite things on the building, it's cheaper than everyone having their own providers) and hand-crank radios. TVs can be battery-run. Unless there are poeple here who like building generators and wiring buildings. Is anyone here a plumber?

If we need a bigger island, we can get one later. For now, I think the small one will do. It's big enough. :)

PS: Hogcay Island is beautiful though.

PPS: I'll jsut add TheMachine1's name, since he seems enthusiastic enough. :P

Living someplace where I could hount for food has been a goal of mine for a while. This sounds neat!

I'd be in, don't know what I can do from here though.
