My Bf has about 25 fish tanks in his room full of different colored guppies. Breeding guppies is a hobby of his I have a small tank with 3 goldfish. The other day one of my goldfish got a pebble stuck in his mouth and almost died till my bf came home and took the fish out and got the pebble out of it's mouth :D

My mollies seem to follow the old truth according to which there's nothing more interesting to do while living in an aquarium than indulging in sexual activities because they are reproducing like crazy.

And my sucking loach I was writing about year ago when I started this thread has probably died because I haven't seen it since yesterday.

I don't have one but I wanted one when I was six because it was The Little Mermaid version. It was a small aquarium. I asked for one for Christmas but instead my friend Stephanie got it and I thought Santa maybe made a mistake because he gave it to the wrong person. So for a while I believed it was mine but I never tried to take it with me because I knew if I did I would get caught and get stopped.
I was nine when I found out it was never mine in the first place because I found out Santa wasn't real. It's our parents all along that gives us presents but they pretend Santa gives them to you. So it was my parents that never bought me The Little Mermaid Aquarium and my friend's parents did. My parents probably thought me having fish would be too much of a responsibility for me. I knew you feed them but I did not know you have to clean the aquarium too but I do not know how often. I even found out they need water going through the tub and out making bubbles because it's what make the fish live. They can't live in still water. I found out with Goldfish, you have to change the water everyday or they die.

I don't think I want fish anymore because I know they are lot of work.

You must not have read my post carefully I said I am not sure how often you need to clean the aquarium but with a goldfish you have to change the water everyday.

You know what a goldfish is right? A fish in a bowl that doesn't have a pump. I don't mean bowl we eat out of, I mean the goldfish bowl.

yeah I know
I've had fish since I was three
bowls, tanks, big, small
I know all about them

for fish bowls you gotta change the water once every 3 weeks
not every day lol

My mother said it was everyday.

well I have been keeping them (and damn well) for 16 years...
trust me
it ain't that long
you can change it every month if you get the cleaning magnet or snails
but I generally leave snails to big tanks
and just change the water every 3 weeks
there is also special chemicals that make the water better for fish
its not necessary but I recommend it
ensures healthy fish :)
bowls are fine for 1-2 small fish
only reason I have a bowl is to keep the fish in when I am cleaning out the tank

your mom was probably trying to deter you from wasting your money
fish aren't an easy pet, despite what people claim
but I love them :)

St. Nicholas is real, he just isn't alive anymore ;)

I'd say how much water you change depends on how quickly it dirties. I try to change 20% of the water once a month, but sometimes I forget ¬_¬ Back when I first got into guppies, I think I changed 20% of the water every other week.

I don't know which breeds this applies to, but while looking for guppy stuff, I read that goldfish get most of their oxygen from the surface, just like bettas, so you need a bowl that's wide at the top, so they have lots of surface area to breathe from. Never heard of them needing water that isn't still, but I haven't looked into it too much.

Certainly that one can't be true, though I suppose it might depend on how big their tank is. Of course, goldfish will all die one day...especially if you get the little 10¢ feeder fish...a lot of pet stores don't take very good care of those, some of them aren't even fit for feeding =/

It’s still alive two years later 8O . It has outlived all its companions – such a highlander of the fish world – “there can be only one”. I have loads of black mollies keeping it company but all of them are way younger.

No, but I am getting fish for my birthday in November, and it would be cool to make an acquarium! :D
