Another animal I find a bit creepy is the armadillo. They're kinda cute when you see them in pictures... but when you see them in person, especially in the wild, where there is no protection. When I was living in Florida one time when I was out running doing my normal route, I saw one creeping around on the track. I stopped and looked at it, surprised at how strange and unworldly it looked. I'd never seen one in person before. It looked like an ancient alien... like something you'd see popping out of the ground in a Power Ranger's show. Like a really cheezy quality prop or something. It looked fake. It certainly didn't behave as other world animals would. I tried to mess with it and jumped right before it to spook it. Well, it had none of it. In fact, it crept toward me suggesting no fear at all and maybe aggression. I retreated after looking at it for a while longer and continued my run.

You gotta remember, armadillos are Texans. They show no fear. 8)

Coincidentally, when I saw the title this was the very first thing I thought of. The second was giant squid. Blehhhk.

Only one thing goes through my mind when I see that picture: "STOMP! STOMP! STOMP!"

We have those kind in Texas, too. The ones that lived in my Dad's old house, where I grew up during my teens, were psychotic. 8O They'd make every effort to get nearer to you, even if they were dying from a recent shot of bug spray. The last one I saw was outside on the deck, and flew right to my mouth, which was closed, and it struggled to climb inside. That experience raised my scare-threshold, so that no mere crawling or non-mouth entering roach can remotely scare me. It's just "Stomp! Stomp! Stomp!" time, end of story. :P

I remember when I was about 12, and my skateboard just happened to run over a medium-sized roach, and its juices shot about a yard out of its body. It was cool! I wasn't even on the skateboard at the time. It was just rolling by itself, and the roach tried to cross its path. :) Roach roadkill, FTW!

I decided to ignore my cohabitating family around the time the two of them screamed about a giant roach in the bathroom and I thought I hope they crawl all over me. I think trying to fake tolerance of my family made me hypersensitive to vermin in general but now I wouldn't mind some in our house. I think it would be perfectly appropriate.

Can't stand silverfish or most local (Southeast US) roaches. Ants I like unless they invade my living space; then it's war.

I love spiders, and usually try to get them outside if they get in the office building before someone stomps on them. Knew a guy a long time ago who kept giant hissing cockroaches as pets, and those were kind of cool.
