So would anybody say that requiring more or less sleep is an aspie thing? I'm really curious about the answer.

I feel most rested when I sleep about 9-11 hours, but I rather have more time for other things. I can function well with 6 hours a sleep for a few days but then I will start to feel it.

I need at least four. Cannot possibly sleep more than about eight.

My personal record is fourteen days without sleep.

What was that like? I start hallucinating after a mere 3 or 4.

I did not start to hallucinate badly until the tenth day.

I was studying for final exams, when I suddenly had four distinct voices in my head. They wished to visit with me. They each had a distinct voice, personality, and even accent. They were also capable of all talking simulaneously, while I could converse with them simultaneously.

I told them I would not have time to visit with them unless they helped me to study. They agreed to do so. As far as I could remember, I studied one subject while each of my voices studied another subject. However, maybe my memory at that point cannot be trusted.

However, I did rather well on my exams.

I need to sleep between 8 and 9 hours to be fine in the day, I really don't know exactly how much time I really get to sleep because I wake up several times every night, I get indigestion when I don't sleep enough, like 5 hours.

I usually function best for work with 6 hours of sleep. Somewhat ironically, If I sleep more than 7 hours before working the next day, I tend to feel groggy. This is probably due to entering another "sleep cycle", which will happen if you sleep too long for yourself. However, on the weekends, I like to "catch up" and get as much sleep as my mind and body will allow me to. It leaves me feeling very refreshed and very "repaired from the work week". And a little grogginess on the weekend is totally fine with me. Makes me feel relaxes.

Medical fact: both your body and your brain heal themselves during sleep. Slight damage to both during a typical day is normal, and you need sleep to repair that daily damage.

I used to just think that sleep was for regaining energy -- just recharging -- but it does a lot more than that.

I'm seventeen years old... I've read that at my age, you need a full twelve hours of sleep to operate... I get maybe three or four most nights, maybe six on a very, very good night... and I'm pretty boned after school, I usually fall asleep and have to get f****d up on caffeine before I can do any homework.

And to think some people waste money on illegal drugs to do that. :D

I need 8 hours a day. If I'm up past 24 hours I get nauseated and start microbursting. I had one period of 8 years and another of 10 years where I only averaged 4-5 hours a night. Since then, I can only do it in short bursts.

Dayumn! Did you utilize any chemicals to assist you in achieving your slumberless fortnight? Chemicals or not, I admire you for accomplishing such a feat that would seem physically impossible on my own part. Did you take anything with you from the experience that added to your view and perspective of life as a whole?

I used caffeine and sugar, with a little help from oxygen and nitrogen, of course. :D

The two things that I brought away from it were:

- Reality is what you make of it.
- I never want to do that again.

Just random.

I liked the puffy eye response.

I don't know if AS and NT have different requirements. But, hey, we can start official research if you would like!

I used to think I needed 12 hours, but I found that I was waking frequently, thus prolonging the time I needed to be in bed. So I sleep very poorly, unless I medicate. The actual time spent sleeping is more like 9 hours.

Usually 10-12 hours to function properly.
