I'm a big fan of the Devonian era. You gotta hand it to those first tetra-pods that crawled up out of the ancient seas, they showed a lot of initiative.

BUMP.

Ok, so far most people like Ancient and the 1900's and some people like the future somehow.

WHY?

And yet their worshiping of cows seems strangely familiar... have you had your break today?

I'd like to visit 1977, when the Queen was celebrating her Silver Jubilee, 25 of London's Routemasters were painted a quasi-futuristic silver, just for that year, and the Sex Pistols were just starting out, as a group. I would also be able to see Star Wars, on the very first weekend that it opened, the first time, around. 8)

I've often thought I'd like to have been around in the Edwardian era, when there were books on etiquette, and lots of rules to follow about how to behave in social situations, like with visiting cards and so on - I've often wondered if having a set of regulations to adhere to would have made it harder or easier to fit in...

I picked "Future", because I just *love* the 2060s... decking must be a kickass experience, the return of magic is very intriguing, and metahumanity with its amazing diversity! But my other favourite period is the Mousterian culture (Neanderthals). I mean, we have their heritage... and they looked so much cooler than modern humans :-)

Ah, a Shadowrun fan. However, I believe we're expected to separate fantasy from reality while participating in this poll.

C'mon people.. ancient times are clearly the most fascinating of all. :farao:

Vote responsibly.

I've been a history buff for decades, and that's why I wouldn't mind visiting (very temporarily) but not living, in the past. Most of these periods didn't have the choices we do today. History is written for the most part by the rulers, the intellectuals, and not many of the ordinary Joes out there.

You'd have to give up (except maybe the 1900s), modern medicine, a large part of your diet (eat locally wasn't just a good idea then, it was often your only choice), refrigeration, hot showers, phones, the Internet, tolerance (in many of these eras, NTs would just kill or enslave you for being different), etc.

Most people in the Middle Ages grew up, lived, and died on the same plot of land, and never traveled (unless they went on pilgrimage, which wasn't much of an option for most folks) more than 7 miles in your entire life (which would be about 30-40 years on average, right up to the 20th century). No checks and balances; if someone in a suit of armor wanted something you had, you gave it to him, or he rode over your corpse to take it from your family. The Church was absolute; you could get 7 years pennance for certain sexual positions (I'm not making this up), and they got a cut of your harvest. I could go on and on...;)

1977 was ok, I was in college then. Saw Star Wars 7 times, but you have to wait years for the next installment (this was the appeal of Battlestar Galactica; we were between Star Wars episodes, and Star Trek had been off the air for over a decade..;) It was a sleazy period to me; everyone was in the midst of the sexual revolution, and everyone was 'getting more' than I was (until a couple decades later, when we found out most everyone was lying). Rock was stuff like Boston, Journey, arena stuff...or (shudder) disco. Carter was president, and things just got more and more depressing. There was a recession just before, and just after that. it wasn't all bad, of course, but it was a decade of bad clothing..;)

Hah... should I say Judge Rotenberg Centre? And exorcism is still used in places...
And those who are not abused physically (like yours truly), will just die of starvation because it's impossible to find a job without succumbing to the NT system.
Tolerance is the big lie of the modern age.

You know, 1977 was one of my favourite years. I saw "Star Wars" (three times), "Orca", "Airport '77", "The Rescuers" and a von Däniken matinée; I was very comfortable with the corduroy pants, long-sleeved shirts and knitted vests most of my classmates wore (and which I still wear today); I was excited by all the talk about quarks and the Super Proton Synchrotron recently unveiled at CERN in Geneva; it was the year I really discovered pop music ("Ma Baker", "Angelo", "Dancing Queen", Baccara, Sailor and the Beatles) and started collecting cartoon strips (mostly "B.C."). Everything was so fresh and new then, I keep returning again and again to that year as a deep well of enthusiasm and excitement whenever my present supply runs dry...
