Thanks once again, SleepyDragon!

Could you remove the purple from my new avatar please? Purple makes it look weird. I'd rather if it was white. I tried doing it myself with Paint, but it still had purple!

You're right, she looks better on a white background. Doesn't look too flash with a transparent background; I'd keep the white bg and the 1-px black border.

Here's why that happened. When you open a GIF picture in Paint, you also open the palette of colours that was used to make that picture. This is no problem if the palette is one of the standard 216-colour Websafe palettes. But, if it is a limited palette, with only shades of, say, black, white, blue and green in it, and you click on a colour, the Paint program will pick the colour out of the limited palette that it "thinks" is closest to the one you wanted.

You can get around this problem by using "Save As..." to save your picture as a 24-bit bitmap. Give it a different filename so you can tell it from your original picture. Once you have finished making your changes, save your work as a 24-bit bitmap, then save it again as a GIF.

When you go back to the GIF format, you can get some funny dithering effects. That is, the Paint program tries to re-create a particular colour by making a sort of polka-dot pattern with two slightly different colours.

You can get around that by editing your picture as a 256-colour bitmap instead of a 24-bit bitmap. You have less choice of colours to work with, obviously, but for cartoon-type drawings, that doesn't matter quite so much.

Hope this helps.

Hi Berserker,

I'm not SleepyDragon, but I gave it a shot.

Image

However I am sleepy :), so I won't be able to make any more mods/revisions to it tonight since I'm going to bed.
