He was a racist, as judged by todays moral standards. However, its very hard to judge pre contemporary moralists as the shifting moral zeitgeist paints them in a particularly grungy light.

Not all celebrities are idiots, or media whores. I was talking about this in class just now (actually, we were talking about actors, but it comes out as more or less the same thing). Viggo Mortensen, Johnny Depp, and surprisingly Will Smith and Jim Carrey (stuff spellings, I can't be bothered to fight the internet to find the correct ones) are seriously good actors, and Mortensen at least isn't a media whore at all - his recent interview in Empire is a perfect example of that: he wanted to talk politics rather than his films.

The majority of them are though. And as much as I hate the media whores and idiots, it's the people who are famous for nothing that get on my nerves most of all. Paris Hilton and all ex-big brother housemates and page three models are top of my list.

It's good to see that there are at least a few people here who don't harbor ill-feelings toward celebrities. They are still human beings just like us. Some of you may be surprised to learn that the 'American Dream' of wealth and fame is more often a nightmare.

Annoyed? No.. more like sympathetic.

I actually feel profound horror and pity towards her over her condition. I think it is indicative of the terrible stresses placed upon such public figures by the media; and the detrimental effects such a lifestyle can inflict upon a person. I just hope she is allowed some peace now that she is under section.

I agree with you though, I feel really bad for her. I know what it's like to feel all crazy inside, and look crazy to everyone else on the outside, but I can't imagine topping it off with her immense amount of fame and lack of privacy. I just want to give her a hug...

amy winehouse is a good singer but is pretty f****d up.

I like Hillary Duff, she seems a nice enough person, and has decent values. Most of the celebs I don't like are arrogant and slu*ty.

It's not the individual celebs I rail against, it's the sick culture that produces them.

I really respected Brad Pitt when a reporter asked him some political question I can't remember, and he replied, "Why do you care what I think? I'm an actor."

To me, that sums it up. I like movies too; but I don't understand why the people who do a good job of acting in them should be lionized and rewarded to such a demented extent, while humanitarian workers and those who provide social services go unsung.
