I love growing my own vegies, eventhough I don't eat them, they tend to disperse among my neighbors and family. We actually grew a few tomatoe plants in an old wheelbarrow that had holes in the bottom, it allowed for drainage and we could move the tomatoes around where the sunny spots where, and if it was freezing at night we could bring them in the garage. We did learn, however, that 2 is generally the maximum amount of tomatoe plants you want in a wheelbarrow :P

now that i live in a townhome, I grow a lot fewer veggies than I used to. At my moms house, I uded to grow 18 tomato plants(beef steak, rutgers, and better boy are some good slicing varieties. ) Romas are great for making stewed tomatoes, and grape tomatoes are great for salads. I also grew green beans(itallian, string, yellow wax and green, pole and buch type.), slicing cucumbers and pickling cucumbers, zucchini, several different varieties of peppers(sweet yellow banana, jalapeno, cayenne, anaheim, pimento, sweet green), cabbage, cantaloupe, carrots, spinach, radishes, beets, watermelon, dill, lettuce(baby butter crunch is good) snap peas, chives, onions, garlic, potatoes. Now, All I have room for is 6 tomato bushes that i share with my neighbor.

also, our growing season here is usually March(starting cool weather veggies such as spinach, radishes, beets, etc) with last frost for the spring in June. The end of the growing season is about september.(first autumn hard frost is in October or November)
