Raptor I read somewhere about the difference in cost between the Vulcan and Lahti Ammo (Shotgun News maybe?) but didn't realize the $32 a round cost. 8O BTW I had a Colt Delta Elite that I really liked but got rid of it because ordering ammo from Double Tap was a hassle, I sold it because my HK USP45 and G21 can both eat lots of +P with no ill effects. It's too bad the 10mm didn't become a bigger player. What do you think of the 357 Sig? I have two, a SIG P229 and a G32, both with 40 barrels, I like the 357 a lot. :D

Velodog,
I reload all of my 10mm ammo. In fact, it was when got my S&W 1006 that made me start reloading because of the dismal selection of ammo in that chambering. From there I started loading for my other calibers.

I’ve thought about getting a .357 SIG, either a Glock 31 or SIG P229, but that’s just one more caliber to have to reload for (new dies, shell plate, and all that BS). I might get one anyway, though. I at least think the .357SIG is a neat round but I don’t know if it has enough over a good +P or +P+ 9mm, .40, or .45 to say that it’s that much better as a defensive round. I’d be getting it more just because I want one to play with at the range.

The $32 per round for 20mm S18/1000 ammo is just what the guy with the Solothurn told me. I can’t afford the gun itself so the cost of the ammo is irrelevant. Even if it’s under $32 it will still be prohibitively expensive unless you have a lot more money to throw around than I do.
I’d consider a .50 BMG rifle if I had somewhere near enough to me to really wring it out, like over 1000 yards.
50’s are a real hoot if you haven’t tried one yet. :D

I have shot a friends LAR Big Boar and another friends AR50 and found them both to be remarkably pleasant to shoot as far as recoil, but don't stand to the side of one of them. 8O 12K FPE is nothing to sneeze at. :D Reloading is definitely something I should have started years ago, but I just haven't been interested enough so far. I agree that placement trumps surface area , energy etc assuming an adequate load is used and I respect the 9 and 40 as well as the 45. One of the things that I like about the 357 is using the 40 S&W in the same gun since it is a proven performer and readily available so even if the 357 went tits up ammo would still be available, unlike the 45 GAP which hits as good as an ACP but may very well peter out. I like the performance but am too invested in the ACP (7 autos and one derringer) to bother with it.

Yeah, if you have 7 .45's you must be pretty impressed with them. I only have 3 .45's, a Springfield 1911 Custom Loaded model, S&W 4506, and a Colt Combat Commander. I've thought about getting a HK USP in .45 and I see that you have one. How do you like it? One of the shops here might be getting in some LE agency trade-in full size varient 1 USP .45's and if they do I might have to pick one up. When they get in a sizable shipment of police trade-ins they price them to sell in order to keep things moving.

I know I could get a .357 SIG barrel for my Glock 23 but just haven't. I'd be more inclined to just go ahead and get a separate new gun dedicated to that caliber and keep my G23 the way it is in .40.

It sounds to me like you are doing well in the 45 dept Raptor, I like the USP45 better than the SIG P220 that I no longer have. With standard pressure ammo it shoots soft, but with Winchester 230 grain SXT +P's the 1911s handle it better. The feel takes some getting used to and the 45s you have may very well shoot more accurately for you but its pretty solid, if you can get a Police trade in for a good price I would say go for it.

.357 Sig is high on my to-get list, preferably in the form of a P229. I've only shot the caliber in a Glock, but I really liked it. The easy conversion to .40 S&W (short & weak, 10mm ftw!) is a nice bonus, though I'm not a huge fan of .40 cal. I used to have an HK USP compact in that caliber, and I was just never that happy with it, and eventually sold it. I shot my friends full size USP in .45ACP quite a lot, and I loved that, so maybe I just had a lemon of a gun, who knows.

I actually shot quite a bit of .50 BMG when I was in Denver, a fellow student had an AR50 and wasn't stingy with his ammo. That was an amazingly soft shooting gun for the power, though you really had to wear plugs under muffs to shoot it comfortably. Another student had this weird thing that went onto an AR lower and turned it into a single shot .50 that weighed only 13 lbs. That was a little nasty to shoot, though not too bad standing. Prone however, was another story... I'd love to have a .50, but they are a bit pricey. I'd also want to build my own, just cause I can :D . It might be interesting to make a short one, like a .50 carbine, just to be different. With the monster break I'd have to put on it, that would be the loudest thing at the range by a wide margin. I'm not a super long range shooter, so the loss in velocity wouldn't be that big of a deal. It would also look really scary in a rear window rack, alway useful for scaring off pesky Canadians.

The other things I got to play around with a bit in Denver where class 3 weapons, namely machine guns and silenced weapons. The machine guns, I could take or leave, they just weren't all that much fun to shoot. You just couldn't be all that accurate with them, and that kind of took the point out of it for me. I did have fun with a USAS12 full auto 12gauge though, that thing should have come with a seat belt! A MAC10 in .45 with the original Scionics suppressor was also pretty fun, and amazingly controllable. I could imagine I was shooting John Travolta on the toilet... Silencers definitely had more of a neato factor for me. I did some work for a guy that was a class 4 dealer out there, and he had all sorts of wild stuff in his safes. I asked him how quiet a Ruger MKII with the integral suppressor was, and he just popped off a few rounds in his back yard to show me. Pretty dang quiet is what I'd say. The rounds hitting a tree were way louder than the gun. It most definitely did not make that funny zing sound like in the movies though.

I love guns, and I've got a few. I used to hunt, but now I just like to shoot for fun. I will be carrying some of my pistols when I get my concealed handgun license this summer. Not all at the same time, of course :D

Let's see, my collection to date consists of:

Pistols:
Ruger Mark II MK678 in .22LR
SIG Sauer P232-SL in .380 ACP
Smith & Wesson 60-10 in .357 Mag.
Smith & Wesson 629-6 in .44 Mag.
Colt Delta Elite in 10mm Auto

Rifles
Ruger 10/22 in .22LR, a tricked out target rifle a friend sold me for dirt cheap!
Ceska Zbrojovka CZ-452-FS in .22LR
Yugoslavian M70AB2 (AK-47 variant) in 7.62x39mm
Remington 700BDL Deluxe in .270 Win. This was my deer rifle.
Thompson/Center Hawken in .54 Cal. (black powder rifle)

I need a shotgun of some sort. I'm thinking of a custom Saiga 12.

Nice collection

SIG Sauer P232-SL in .380 ACP - gotta love that one.
Have you tried the Baikal shotguns.

Had a nice old shotgun once, dont remember the name now, it was a doubble barrel semi-automatic with 6 shells in it. That was a nice one. Just point and pull and empty both chambers at once, used slugs in it, that kicked bad.

^I thought semi automatic shotguns were not as powerful as regular shotguns because some of the energy of the shot gets transferred into reloading the next shot.

Stupid idiot...could have gotten us both killed! At that age I didn't know any better.

You shoudn`t call your father that.. I know I know, all parents can be a pain at some point, but please listen to my story..

-In may of `95 me and my dad (one of the greatest men ever to walk this earth) had a bad fight. Didnt make up.(always do that, always)

Two days later he dropped dead of a massive heart attack right in front of the house were we lived then. Gone in 2 seconds.

And that was it. Thats 13 years ago, Never cried, just pushed it down and said nothing to no one. I`ll never be done with it, ever. Because I was an idiot. I deserve to be tormented for that. I am trash compared to him, truly a great man, I dont even reach him to the knees when it comes to anything.

Never take them for granted.

Do not do what I did. It WILL haunt you for the rest of your life, if your anything like me.

Miss you dad. r.i.p

Kind of off topic, but...
My father and I don't have contact anymore. If he dropped dead i'd have nothing to regret as i've never even had the chance to argue with him.
So technically, i'm not making any mistakes.

You are absolutely right. And I zoomed straight outta that topic, my bad. I just got to thinkin of it when I read the post.

This is something that doesn`t applie to everybody. My hope was that by telling it, that it could help someone from not making the same mistake I did, because it was a big one. A whopper.

But, as you underline, there are differences here. Please dont see me post as a "must do" or "answer" to something. It was just ment as a tip from one who has done it and regrets. You have a good point and its good you brought it up here.

If the price was right I'd at least hafta have an H&K MP-5 and an MG-42. Dream on. :(
Class 3 weapons are pretty much priced out of reach unless someone bought one a long time ago. In 1986 our thoughtful politicians decided that any and all newly manufactured selective fire weapons would no longer be transfered to us tax paying unwashed peasants. If you want one it has to be made before the '86 cut off date which makes the supply limited and increasingly expensive. On top of that you add a $200 tax stamp. Government agencies are of course exempt.

A double barrel semi-auto shotgun? I’m trying to even visualize that.

It’s actually a comparatively very small amount of pressure that’s tapped off to operate a gas operated semi-auto. The loss is negligible.

Here's a few pics of my stuff:

Image
This is some of my stuff. It's a few months out of date, but mostly accurate. The rifle laying along the bottom of the pic I built from scratch.

This was my everyday carry when I delivered in a less nice area than I do now. The knives in the lower right are made of fiberglass, and are completely non metallic. I used to take them through the detectors when I delivered to King County Jail, or Harborview Medical Center here in Seattle. They might have raised a few eyebrows if they were found...

Nice set of hardware. Is that a CZ-52 In the upper left corner near the butt of the AK? I have two of those and I’ve always liked that sinister Warsaw pact look that they have to them. They’re fun to shoot sometimes but not very ergonomic. The grips on yours look like they’re black and all the other ones I’ve seen so far are brown.
What caliber is the Desert Eagle?
Also, how do you like that Kel-tech? I’ve contemplated getting one since they’re so compact that I can just stick one in my pocket. I prefer my Glock 23 but it’s still kinda bulky even though it’s supposed to be a compact pistol. It ends up staying under the seat of my truck more than on my person.

Mr. Bogan:

Mine was not gas, just regular 12" double barrel semi-auto. Two triggers side by side,
6 shells total, no wait, that might have been 8 shells fully loaded with two in the barrels.
Might have been Belgium/Swiss homemade or something. This was a loong time ago.
Old, real nice, real quality. With pictures carved in the metall on the sides.
One problem was that you had to use the same type/brand of shells in one round, or else it
jammed halfway through.

If you didnt hit with the first 2, then the next 6 took care of it. Might have some pictures
of it, I`ll look around. Never hunt or anything like that, not very interested in guns,
like the explotions/target practice.
