I went out for lunch, and as I got back to my car, there is a red-brown mud dauber wasp on my window, very close to where the door opens. I am not worried about daubers. I do have a wasp allergy, but only the vespas (yellowjackets) are social and protect their nests, daubers are singular and generally don't sting unless attacked.
So I say "Hello, please don't get inside the car with me." And it took a few moments to consider, and flew into my side mirror, between the casing and the mirror itself.
Satisfied, I drove home. Once I stopped and parked, it came out to take in the new surroundings. I wonder if it is still in the mirror casing of safety, or if it has found a new homestead on the bottom of my porch.
