So I was going to my car earlier, and my neighbour was out there. She shouted over to say hello.
Neighbour:
I see your hair is getting really long.
Me:
?! Um, yeah I guess. I haven't cut it since Dec 2019 because of Covid lockdowns / precautions.
Neighbour:
You have really nice hair but I think you should cut it.
Women your age don't normally wear their hair that long. It likely confuses people about your age.

WTF? Is this the way people normally talk to their neighbours?
My hair is about midway down my back. Is that so terrible? Now I feel like a freak!
I think she was just trying to make small talk with you really, I don't think she meant any ill intent. I'm sorry that you feel like a freak for having long hair at your age(I'm actually not sure how old you are).
But if you are getting up into the 50s, she might've said that because as you get older it gets harder to maintain long hair either due to hair starting to fall out or struggling to reach your hair due to older joints and less energy. Maybe she was recommending it because of her own life experiences with dealing with long hair as she got older. I would take it with a grain of salt and forget about it. If it works for you then keep rolling with it and do you.
