My sister-in-law is not being supportive of my brother’s decision to go to nursing school. She disapproves of college.
You're going to have to explain that one.
The religion that my brother and I were raised in and that my SIL is still a part of is against higher education. Some of them are okay with trade school or nursing, but my SIL is more rigid. Of course, my brother is going to be an RN which is more frowned upon because it takes more time to complete. Anyway, my brother was just as rigid when they got married. He’s grown while she’s stayed exactly the same. It’s weird. I feel for her, too, because things aren’t going the way that she was expecting them to. Her husband and son are nonbelievers and won’t be in Paradise (in her indoctrinated mind). My brother is really smart and maybe would’ve become a scientist in a more favorable environment, but I try not to think about that.
Anyway, JWs basically think that Armageddon will come any day now and that people should focus on religious activities. I remember family saying that Armageddon would come before I was old enough to attend kindergarten. Not to worry! They are just as confident that it’ll come any day now as they were then. Whenever there’s an alleged sign, they freak the f**k out.
There’s a lot more to this stuff than that, but this is the condensed version.
It’s really sad that she can’t be supportive and happy for him. It’s just constant negativity.
