I can guarantee it's not cushy, but of course she can apply. Here positions are usually reserved for grad students and there's a preference for BIPOC, but the pay is decent and if she develops a good relationship with her department it could lead to further opportunities for work / study / networking.

My uncle is a heavy smoker. He was told he would die about 15 years ago if he smoked a single cigarette more than he already had done. His lungs were turning into charcoal.

He is still on this Earth, smoking 20+ a day & his lungs are now more charcoal than they were 15 years ago.

Awesome guy.

I've never really understood how some people can have their whole future life mapped out for them, by their teens.

I don't think i am good with people enough to get in academia. Also giving lectures would be a nightmare for me, public speaking is not for me.

@theprisoner: I also had no ambition or future plans whatsoever in my teens. Getting into a college and having a degree is really no big deal where i live, to get into a college you just have to pass an exam that requires you to have a good memory.

RA's don't speak.
They hide in libraries or work from home with mountains of material to seek / process / quote / cite for professors.

I think that's different where i live, i actually researched this but they do have to give lectures. I wish there was a position where i could just do research on my own all day but it doesn't exist here..

Strange thought around the traits of rigidity...

What is the real basis of rigidity in autism, really?

Slow processing? Anxiety? Alexithymia? Narrow-mindedness? Executive functioning?
Classic cognitive dissonance? OCD?
A strange response to conditioning (based on holding onto anchoring bias)? Overcompensation over sensory or emotional input? Plain poor predictive thinking?

Something related to being pedantic -- like alexithymia, which not all autistics have or do?

Despite having similar names there is absolutely no link between colder weather and having the common cold.

I'm craving a hot plate of spaghetti, with enough grated Parmesan cheese so that it doesn't melt before it's in my mouth....I love the texture
