They remind me of monkeys for some reason.
Although Monkey in the series Monkey itself isn't a monkey either, it's a Japanese dude with goofy teeth and side burns.

That's because gorillas apes, and apes and monkeys are all primates so they look kind of similar, there is more info on that a few pages back.
