Yes, might leave the sofa and carpet behind. The council will probably charge me for it but sod it.
If there was any justice in Manchester they'd be paying you. Unless it's a really undesirable sofa and carpet. The ones I've got in my living room in Leicester are.
When leaving a flat in Antwerp, I was legally obliged to find a new tenant,
Is there no end to the oppression of tenants? If you don't get any takers are you stuck there for life?

but none of the potential takers liked the carpet (which seemed perfectly alright to me) so I put it up for sale, "must be collected". When the buyers came to take it up, they kept grinning at me like I was a compete plonker, presumably because of the low price. I never mentioned that I'd otherwise have had to pay someone to dispose of it.
Oh well, maybe there was another reason for them grinning at you. What a nightmare though, having to find somebody to move in, and them taking a look and saying "I don't like the carpet." Reminds me of my last employer who put me on a rota for some horrible job and then said I had to find another mug to do it after my turn had expired. Lucky for me that system broke down because too many people just didn't obey it very conscientiously. People tend to fight back when the elite try it on.
