If it's anything to do with the News and Current Events thread, I think that discussion went a bit off the rails for reasons that were not your fault.

It would help if some audiobooks didn't have sound effects. Earlier I took a nap with an audiobook playing and got woken up in a panic because there was an alarm sounding in the audiobook and I thought it was the smoke detector going off.

SOMEONE violated the international rule of law, again. How many more must suffer until this charade ends? Has the Palestinians' suffering over the last year not been sufficient to convince countries of the importance of adherence to established norms and conventions?

Now, it looks as if the world is devolving into a state which can be best described as "every person for themself". Millions of our ancestors died in ovens, mass graves, killing fields, pogroms, so that their sacrifice may grant their children peace. And their legacy has been trampled, again, for like the sixth time this century. Sigh.

May there be mercy on the perpetrators for their sins.

I think the world learnt to look the other way, and then in the decades that followed it looked the other way again in guilt or as an act of appeasement. And since then we have have had a long time to learn that we can live quite comfortably with our own complicity. I do find it very distressing. And I think few hands are clean. We are no better than we were.
