Her sister did not respond. She did not seem to be able to, but the girl continued talking regardless.
“How about skip rope? If either of us trips, the other wins. Will you play?” It was a simple question, not a challenge.
She turned towards the hooded and cloaked figure in the corner of the room.
“I accept.” death said calmly, and smiled.

It's not the beginning of a sentence.
"I accept," said death.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever phrased as '...said Bob'; it's always been 'Joe said...'. I'm not sure why.

I think if you're talking about an entity representing death, it's capitalized. At least, that's how I've always seen it done.
