I'm the same way - I've been working on each of my current stories for at least a year. I usually start by just taking an idea and getting it on paper, and seeing where it goes. My brain jumps around enough, I can't write a story straight from start to finish to save my life.

It took me nearly four years to write my first book [before it suddenly became my second].

Oh, Kuraudo, please write one about witty talking dragons one day.
There are not enough dragons books in this world.

One of mine features dragons (of course), although they're often in the shape of humans. Highly unlikely I'll ever publish anything, though.

What are you writing about? How many stories do you have pending? I would love to know how to write.

There's one I've been working on for six years or so and still haven't finished

Dragons: Don't give up on that. I've found a good site for beginning publishing, if you're interested [it's cheap, too.]

Yet, with the help of NaNoWriNo, I've written two books in two months [July and November]. It might help you, if you're interested in that either.

I currently have three stories going. One features someone who is part dragon, part shapeshifter, and, as she later finds out, part demon (and there are other dragons as well). Another features wendigos, and the main character is part wendigo herself. The third is set in the Hellraiser world but uses entirely my own characters - so it's sort of semi-fanfic. They all tie together in a sort of false apocalypse thing.

I'm very self-conscious about letting other people read my writing. I really don't think I'm very good overall, although there are some bits that I'm very pleased with how they turned out. Right now, I'd feel humiliated if anyone else read one of my stories. I'm just writing for fun, not with the intent of ever publishing anything. But sometime when I've got an idea for a story at the beginning of a month, I'd like to try something like NaNoWriMo.

I can't keep up, my apologies.
Yes Dragons, of course you write about dragons.
Marvellous.
You are both very lucky to have this talent. :salut:

Other people like my books far more than I do. What is with the artistic habit of self-deprecation?

So far I've written four books, and I've got another four lined up [one of them is just short stories, one of them is about the aforementioned reality-warper, one of them is about a family of reapers, and the fourth is the novelization of my ideas of a sci-fi show].

Kuraudo7777, probably the reason why you don't like your books is probably because you know the story, but your audience doesn't know the story, so your audience may like it.

^That...makes sense, I guess. Since I know the story so well, I can poke holes in it far more easily. >.<

I've started tons of books that I never finished. I'm trying a new approach of writing down details about the characters and little snippets of writing rather than starting the actual book right away. I'm hoping that will help me maintain interest in the story for longer.

I just looked up Wendigo - they are gruesome and cool.

They're a main obsession of mine.

Like in Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children?
I loved that book.
