today was a day when i went to to the head office of a company i write software for.
i was slated to give a short introduction to the new system i wrote which about 50 people in the company will be using.
i got there about 1 hour before i had to give my presentation, and i unfortunately went to the tea room where there is a television overhead that is always on.
there were a few people in the tea room, and on the television was a report about the floods in queensland, and a reporter said "people that have been evacuated from their houses will be returning today, and they don't know what state their houses will be in".
i took that to mean that they did not know whether their houses were carried adrift by flood waters and landed in new south wales (the next state down from queensland)
and i said "goodness gracious! the media is beating it up! there has been no catastrophic flooding near the border , are they trying to say that their houses have floated hundreds of miles away or something?", and i was severely criticized and admonished. someone said "shut up mate. keep your comments to yourself huh? at a time like this, we don't need to hear what you have to say".
it was 10:35 and i could not understand why i was not allowed to speak at 10:35, and i started to become difficult, but my boss took me away from the situation thankfully because she said she had some questions about the system , and i was relieved that i was extracted from the tea room as things started to erupt.
she advised me about my misapprehensions and i understand now, but i ........i am better to stay at home or at least not go to the tea room.
what ever
