Two separate comics, both named Dennis The Menace made their debuts on 12 March 1951.

A kilo of chicken nuggets, a whole tray of eggs, a dozen cans of tuna, a liter of cooking oil, a stick of butter, over few kilos of rice...

Maybe a few cans of spam and several grams worth of fries... Along with a half bunch of bananas...

Yeah, I need something more sustainable.

I’m going to the Optometrist today for an eye exam. I want to ask about my crippling light sensitivity, Irlen or reading issues, and Visual Snow. I’ve said it all before but my longtime Optometrist retired so I’ll have someone new to query today.

I’m not convinced I’ll be buying another pair of $800 glasses until they sort this out or send me to Ophthalmology. Last time I blew $3200 on four pair of tinted glasses that didn’t help at all. I’ve barely read a book in two years because even with the expensive glasses I still couldn’t see well enough.

Thank goodness MR will be there to advocate for me if they try to invalidate my concerns.

It’s always fun to try on new frames too, even if I don’t buy today.

In my experience, current day so called 'eye specialists' don't really give proper weight to the conditions you describe and in some cases don't even understand them properly.

I would say that visual snow for example is wildly under-researched, and probably so are the other conditions you mention.

$800 for a pair of tinted glasses seems like a rip off.

That’s the price here if you want actual glasses instead of polycarbonate plastic lenses. Exam is another $150.

What are the advantages of actual glasses instead of polycarbonate plastic lenses?

Oh, I didn't realise polycarbonate plastic lenses were a problem. Can you not get a prescription lens with those?

I really just want a hug IRL right now. I feel really alone and touch-starved.

What lenses to try with my "new" late 1970s black and white video camera that just arrived from the eBay seller.

Polycarbs shouldn't be called "glasses", they should be called "plastics".

Or "wavy, imminent scratch receptacles"

I actually made prescription glass lenses for a summer job.

Cool!

Any kind of lenses are awesome.
One of my all-time favorite books was Isaac Asimov's "Eyes on the Universe: A History of the Telescope".
I love telescopes, cameras, magnifying lenses, laser optics, huge Fresnel lenses, you name it.

Looks like there is some fungus on/in the lens that came with my vintage video camera. Good thing it will so easily accept an absolutely massive range of lenses:

There are few better ways for a big weird undiagnosed autistic dude to cope with social situations than to wield a big weird camera while intoxicated...

Yes, I was "compensating" by wielding such a big lens...

Me in 2000 or 2001, at the "Stellfane" amateur telescope maker's conference in Northern Vermont, grinding a mirror for a reflector telescope.
