Manly things:
cute fluffy pink teddies, flowery patterns on my bed covers and coffee mug, animal posters around the room, things like that

Grilling, I enjoy burning meat as a form of cooking . Facial hair also, I've noticed it seems to have the side effect of making others feel more comfortable around me and also I have less trouble out of teens at work... I'm pretty sure it isn't just me though. That is about the only manly things about me though, even origami was generally considered a mother-daughter tradition in Japan.

The cultural arts like origami, tea ceremony, flower arrangement, were originally mostly Male and elite activities, done by aristocrats, monks, warriors, until the 19th century restoration of Imperial Rule. Then the old ways were discarded, society transformed, and many Western ideas imported. Then origami, tea ceremony, flower arrangement became more associated with general women's activities in the 20th century.

I don't wear pink.

But pink is a strong colour.

How much of 'masculinity' is just Culture, and how much is Natural? What does it REALLY mean to be masculine?

It is all culture. From my vantage point here in new york, the masculine ideal seems to be "emotionless alcoholic who makes lots of money"

It isn't simply fixing things, but using ingenuity and some elbow grease to find a lasting solution to a problem that gives me a man buzz. Camping is a great outlet for that; endless opportunities arise to fashion comforts and amenities using sharp implements, sticks and ropes (or to compensate for forgotten things). Making sushi oddly does it too, I get to make beautiful stuff with sharp knives, apply a wealth of expertise (or pretend I have some) and consume raw fish. Not giving a f*** about a lot of things is important, i.e. cultivating a mental ability to separate signal from noise.

All of this seems to amount to having a sense of power, which I take as synonymous with feeling masculine. Since I don't do sports or guns, maybe having that sense isn't terribly important to me. Except when it comes to my immediate environment--in that case, Do. Not. Touch. Anything.

Reading this thread is such good fun ...

One thing I haven't seen mentioned though (maybe cause I missed it or maybe cause it's just not manly to bring it up), is "taking care of your children". Guys, trust me ... watching a man interact with his kids turns women on something fierce. So there you go.

Of course, I'm assuming that it's manly to want to turn women on
