The cultural arts like origami, tea ceremony, flower arrangement, were originally mostly Male and elite activities, done by aristocrats, monks, warriors, until the 19th century restoration of Imperial Rule. Then the old ways were discarded, society transformed, and many Western ideas imported. Then origami, tea ceremony, flower arrangement became more associated with general women's activities in the 20th century.
