Can you apply for disability support/funding?

My mother withholds my social security because she thinks I would die in the streets if I got access to it. She's a major control freak.

Is it possible at all to stand up to her?

One way to look at the situation is: what is she afraid of? You leaving? Things suddenly changing? Or is it deeper than that?

If that sounds too therapist-ish, I'll respectfully back off.

She'll get really acid mouthed and use all sorts of mental gymnastics against me if I stand up to her. She'll point out how I don't pay for my cellphone, my car insurance, and other things I can't afford.

She's afraid of me leaving because she won't be able to control me anymore.

I've encountered people like that--not personally, though.

One of the best things you can remember is that, no matter who you are, or where you are, you are powerful. If you can believe that, you can make it come true. It may sound silly, but it's true.

You don't live in the Bible Belt so that's probably why.

I do wish I could prove my detractors, both here and outside, wrong.

I try to help and support other people here even though I know I'm crap at it.
That way my troubles seem a bit less.
So I guess it's a selfish motive.
But at least it gives me something else to focus on.

Sounds like you've got it pretty cushy financially , would your social security cover all this? Your mother may well be controlling but it could also be because she cares for you and doesn't know how else to help.

Autistic alert

i was in the hardware store and they had these black, fake fur rugs, and I'm a sucker for fur so I was stuck there running my hands through it.
A female assistant asked me if I needed any help and I replied, "No thanks, I'm just stroking your rug."
She kind of giggled and the male shop assistant behind her started laughing.
Then I realised I'd told her I was stroking her rug, and that could have another meaning.
so I walked off, flapping my hands.

I am pleased for you both. :D
Are you going to celebrate?

we did, but can't remember how. guess we're going to have to celebrate again, more memorably. it's all your fault, temeraire.

What the memory problems? I am sure it's not catching through a keyboard.

no, all of the extra celebration will be your fault. drat!

Good job you don't like to munch on things for stimulation

^^ most of the feeling is back, except the bits that are permanent, like in my lower leg and foot.
I should have explained that this isn't the first time it's happened, I've been hospitalised for it twice.
The first time they put me in stroke rehab for 3 days, which wasn't much fun, the second time it was only overnight.
It seems like it's just one of those things that's part and parcel of everything else.
