Is this because we have 100 times more conversations with ourselves in our heads than we do with others?

I don't know.
I heard it on the radio.
They were trying to get people to list 10 absolute truths about themselves and no one could do it.

I am now wondering if this has anything to do with the conflict between being our authentic self and how we portray ourselves for the outside world.
Like the masks we wear to get approval etc and removing the mask to reveal our nakedness?
True self v's Ideal self.
In the end I think we bury our true self so deep we can lose sight of it -this may be the deception they are talking about?
Also we pick up other peoples preferences as their influence rubs off on us. It can be difficult to know if it is mine or someone else's from many years ago. Nature v's nurture.

Just some ideas which sprang to mind. Of course I could be barking up the wrong tree here. :)

^ I lie to myself all day long telling myself that I'm fine.

We have to use lies to get through life otherwise we would all be crackers by now.
I think lies are just defense mechanisms to help us create our own story. :nerdy:

I feel like that's true sometimes.

I do "little white lies" sometimes.

But there are lies that are really bad, too.

Unfortunately, in my life, I have done both.

But, at least, I didn't get somebody arrested.

I almost once, when I was 12-13 years old. I let this kid in my apartment to get some food---but I told my mother's boyfriend that he forced me in the house. When he said he'd call the police, I retracted my story. At least I wasn't that bad of a liar--even then.

We were debating the lies we tell to ourselves more than we lie to others.
Can you think of lies you told to yourself and how you justify these to yourself?

I say ' I will do it tomorrow ' then say, 'why haven't it done that yet?' weeks later.

Hiya. Aww, what a cute little Adipose. :D

I can't wait for Season 11. Well, I can, but it'll be impatient waiting. Apparently 13 will have three companions! :o

It's not that I really "lie" to myself. It's more like I don't anticipate things properly, or I interpret something wrong.

If I don't think I can do something, I, firstly, try to find a way to make myself "do" something. If that fails, I just concede to myself and others that I can't do it.

10 ABSOLUTE TRUTHS ABOUT MYSELF:

i have black hair.

i learned english and spanish at the same time.

i have visited five countries that are not my own and conversed with a british dude who got away from home for the same reason i did.

i have a drivers license.

i earn $14 an hour.

i started typing this in january and finished it in february.

i would like to buy a lexus in the near future.

curly hair drives me wild.

lighthearted anime makes me sad.

i have let expire more michaels coupons than i have used.

They have to be absolute truths i.e. they will never change/have always been true.
Your hair may be black now, but in time it may turn grey.
There was a time when you couldn't speak English or Spanish.
You may visit more countries in the future.
You have not always had a driver's licence.
You haven't always earned that amount/may earn more in the future, etc.

That's what the people were having trouble with.

I was born.

I can't even be sure that I will die, because what is defined as death?
If the soul lives on, we never die.
If it doesn't, we can maybe live on in memories or as part of the cycle of the universe.
Who decides what is living?
What's to say a rock doesn't have a low level form of consciousness, so far undetected?

I really need to stop thinking about this.

It makes perfect sense to me.

Hi LegoMaster.

I'm sure it'll be an auspicious day.
Well, I'd like to think so. :)

Boo's hiding in the basement because we've got a cleaning lady cleaning most of the house.

Does it?
I'm not sure if anything makes sense.
