There was an earthquake here today.

In Oklahoma City.

Weird.

I need to get some new AAA batteries. I'll do that when I get my next paycheque.

I've seen "cheque" but never "paycheque."

"Check" makes most sense; we don't say "stique" or "lique."

It's not going to take you for ever. It's no big deal and you'll do fine. You're a quick study. :)

I can never get tired of hot chocolate with marshmellows.

It was a 4.7, according to what I later read online. First earthquake I've ever experienced. There's no "rumbling" sound like in the movies, just walls creaking. I was lying in bed reading a book when it hit, and it felt like I was lying on a waterbed that someone else had just jumped on.

This never fails to creep me out; too much rumbling.

Yes, they are weird especially when you're not in an earthquake prone area and you get one like the one that happened here in Virginia. Was it the first one you've experienced Jory?

Pretty typical over here and, I guess, Canada too - presumably "cheque" is French in origin?
This partial adoption of foreign words into a language is pretty illogical and for many things, I prefer the American spellings.

I know "cheque" is used a lot in British English; were you talking about "cheque" or "paycheque" when you said it was typical?

It's taking me forever. Learning the beginning part was easy, but when you get to the later half where the hands are effectively a transposition of each other, man, that part is killer.

Paycheque, although "payslip" is also sometimes used to refer to the whole thing - payment notification and the money transferred.

Yep. Or at least the first one that was big enough to notice.

It's starting to get late. I'll finish off my pop and get myself into bed, soon.
