it was another fine blue-sky day for biking today. i am savoring these relatively warm dry days because it will be cold and gray in another few days.

^Yes, it will. The leaves are all most turned now. Fall comes slower in this area of the world. It's beautiful when it does come.

on most of the country roads out where live, the roads are buried in a bunch of fallen leaves and pine needles from all the trees all over the place. but for some reason there isn't very much red this year, all the leaves turned yellow then brown straightaway without any red in between. or maybe there just aren't any reds anymore around here.

I've just welcomed a bunch of new members who've joined over the past four days. It makes me feel good when I welcome all the new members to the best of my ability. If I miss them, I still find opportunities to welcome them by connecting to them in the different forums here on WP. :D

I think that's really nice of you :D

Not so much today as last night I had a dream about my dog that died last week (well I say died she was put to sleep). In the dream she was still with me but I could only see her in reflective surfaces, so when our TV was turned off and I walked past I'd see a dog next to me, think it was my other one but when I looked down she wouldn't be there. Then the dream went on to the point the reflections became real and my dog was back with me and I was able to hold her and stroke her and just be with her again and it put a smile on my face today, thinking about the good times with her.

I remember the first dog that my family had. She was a white Maltipoo and I had a lot of fun times with her. I used to have dreams about her after my dad put her down. I also think about the fun times that I had with her. She was the first pet that my family had. I miss Taffy. I wish that I would have spend more time with her. I was young. I was more concerned with my homework and my entertainment, but if I could have that time again, I'd be spending a lot of time with her.

I have Chico now and I spend a lot of time with him when I go and visit him and my parents. :)

It does that here too some years and then everything just looks dead and boring to me. I think it takes a dramatic drop in temperature at night to cause a chemical reaction that causes the red leaves. I'm not exactly sure though. I'll have to google it and see what I find out about it.

I'm finally starting to wake up a bit today and I'm very happy about that. :)

Actually, what happens is the chlorophyll dies leaving the colors. The colors are always there, but the green of the chlorophyll overpowers them during Spring and Summer. I learned that from one of my son's books. :)
This has been your fun fact of the day.

That's cool Aimless. :) According to this article in Nature - http://www.nature.com/news/2007/071029/ ... 7.202.html that's part of it and so is the colder temperatures with bright sunlight (instead of at night as I thought might be what causes it. Although it does get colder during the night.) and also by the nutrients in the soil where it's located and so on... Well you learn something new everyday. :)
