I am thinking about the history of language.

In Brazil they once had a saying "when snakes smoke" that meant the same thing as "when pigs fly". During World War 2, the Brazilian politician Getúlio Vargas insisted "Snakes will smoke before Brazil enters the war". Brazil entered the war anyway and the boys in the Brzillian armed forces made this awesome military symbol.



Nowadays in Brazil people say "on February 31st" instead of "when pigs fly" and say "snakes will smoke!" instead of "Brace yourself!"

How little I mean to anyone. Usually this doesn't bother me, as I'm a bit of a wanderer that tends to prefer non-attachment, but lately I've been wondering if this is really how I want the rest of my life to be.

I'm still thinking about the history of languages.

Apparently, all European languages are derived from the ancient Proto-Indo-European language. In this language, the word for "bear" was something close to "arktos". The bear is still called "arktos" in Greek but the ancient Germans were superstitious folk who believed that a bear would show up if you used the word for bear. They call the bear "the brown one". The modern English word "bear" is derived from the old Germanic word for "the brown one".
