I might just be in enough of a newt-like state this year to give that a go. Waving a holly branch should help too, I'd think.

Maybe mistletoe?

It bothered me not knowing what to do in a simple you-shouldnt-have-to-think-here situation though.
If something's sprung on me then there's no time to think and I just go mute, which looks idiotic as well as rude.
A few things I've learned but I still forget to "do" them sometimes and most times I automatically drop into analysis mode before getting a chance to worry much.

and yes drawn out goodbyes are awful, but they follow me around
Had my hair cut today and had a massive overdose of the "auto-convo" stuff:
Got anything planned this year?
Done all your shopping yet?
Going anywhere over Christmas?
Finished work yet?
etc. for each sodding customer in front of me - and I still had no instant answer when it was my turn.

i'm ok with the learned stuff, it's just the new and exotic situations that throw me. like saying bye to sons.

i never chat with hairdressers. even men chat more with hairdressers than me. im so rude

I thought my usual place had got used to me by now but it's the same routine every Christmas.
Normally it's a manageable "no talking" affair and I'm probably known as "that sullen git".
But I'm not, I'm not...

It's like that when I'm in the taxi to and from college

Awkward silences aplenty.

I did mine once, several years ago. Best we don't go there...

aw. do you have a special christmas day outfit prepared too? i bet you do.

i've taken to trimming my own hair so i can keep visits to a minimal. and avoid the temptation i usually succumb to, of deciding to get it all chopped off

Probably something not involving jeans, for once.
I have a white silk shirt/blouse thing (I mean it's not a button-up formal shirt) stashed away for these occasions - it feels incredible to wear, and it make me look all Byron-like too.

It's just past midnight so it is now Wednesday, December 21, 2011

It's the shortest day of the year! The sun will rise at 8:25am and set at 3:50pm.
Also, it's 4 days until Christmas, and I'm still feeling ill.
